The New York Times Is a Mess

Chairman, Trump University

I think anyone who has lost a son, a daughter, or a loved one in the war in Iraq should sue The New York Times for Judith Miller's false reporting about the so-called "weapons of mass destruction" as a premise for that war. It's one thing to get a bad review, it's another to lose more than 2,000 lives because of false or inaccurate reporting. Imagine having the Judith Millers of the world working for you and getting away with things that are inconceivable to a journalist. We have to draw the line somewhere, and that's where I draw the line. All the news that's fit to print seems to have evolved into "whatever we decide to print is the news, whether it is correct or not!"

This past weekend I was playing golf with a friend who was irate with The New York Times. His investment portfolio has never been lower. His stock in the company is at the lowest it has been in ten years, and he can only blame the behavior at the so-called "paper of record" for this plunge.

In addition, the current mess with Judith Miller has made me wonder what is going on there. What kind of reporting is The New York Times doing? Who are they really working for? Can we afford to believe anything they print? Do they have a conscience? Do they know that power includes responsibility? Do they even know what they are doing?

I think The New York Times has some big-time cleaning up to do, but I wonder if it's too late.

Its a shame that the newspapers allow this stuff to go on in their papers, especially a national paper like the New York Times which is available especially to college students. I just hope people are able to pull the fact from the fiction.

It is never too late. Attitude and mission are everything. The gentleman's portfolio is about DD (Due Diligence) and CE (Caveat Emptor) and PV (too easy to know the Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing). As a veteran, respect your Warriors (Veteran's Day), we paid a price, for the value citizens are receiving).

The press has one obligation which in the past has been reporting the news. During the Watergate era we saw that the news entered into the world of investigative reporting and thank God because Nixon really created a real mess. The current situation lies in the "munipulation" of critical data

Mr. Trump, haven't you complained about unfair reporting for years?

I am fed up with the MSM, which is why I now fact check stories

Dear Trump,

I don't think the New York Times has a problem, It's the people behind it and the people they work for. I think to an extent some people want to ruin New York Times Newspaper.

This is an opportunity for you Mr. Trump, to come up with The Trump Times. You can do it. You are the best, now prove to be the better. Remember, is that the best you can do?

With all respect, Mr. Trump, I don't think we went to war because of Judith Miller's reporting.
We went to war on the intelligence of many nations and an UN mandate.
WMD's were only one of the many reasons we went to war.
Getting rid on an evil dictator was one, he harbored terrorists was another.

You also seemed to have missed the 500 metric tons of uranium that was found (about 150 tons of it was enriched). Also, you must have missed the many many vials of chemicals that were found also. All of these were banned via UN resolutions (that Saddam ignored for 12 years).
Don't put all your belief in the lies of Joseph Wilson, who has changed his story so many time, he doesn't know which way he is turning. He claimed that Bush was wrong with his "16 words" that Saddam didn't buy yellowcake from Niger. Bush NEVER said that. He said they ATTEMPTED to purchase it, which is backed up to this day

Unbelievable. At any cost.. I bet she likes the freedoms that our military men and women afford her. How disrespectful can you be when you bite the hand that feeds you? It sickens me. Whatever happened to completely and accurately reporting the news.. and doing so with tact? The media wonders why they are given such a bad rap.. You wonder why doctors and lawyers are required and licensed

While I'm the last person to let the media off the hook for the loose and sometimes scandalous practices they take the liberty of cloaking as journalism, the truth is the responsibility lies with each one of us.

Stock tips or WMD's, no matter how credible the source, we each still have a responsibility to decide for ourselves how and what we believe and act on in our own lives.

For those of us looking for someone to blame I recommend reading the Work of

Just as in business, bad information makes for bad decisions. This is not about Judith Miller's reporting or the New York Times. However, I will concede, sadly, "whatever we decide to print is the news, whether it is correct or not!" Media exploitation drives, and sometimes pushes, while the truth is sometimes left behind.

UN Mandate? What UN Mandate? If there has been a UN Mandate, then there wouldn't have been much opposition for the IRAQ war. The fact remains Bush didn't have support from the UN. You also mentioned about intel from other countries. As far as I know, the US was the one supplying the intel to other nations to convince them to join the Iraqi war. Which I still think it IS wrong. Attempting to get rid of the government of a country you deem as evil is not enough justification for invasion.

As for news reporting, I agree with Mr Trump on the importance of responsibility. News must serve to inform and NOT to mislead. Especially with the freedom of speech, responsibility is of utmost importance.

The Times definitely needs to look to cleaning up their own house. It is sad to see a once respected icon of the industry slip to such lows. It seems to me, however, that the entire industry is slipping. As someone who works frequently with members of the press, I see press briefings jammed with reporters and only a handful, maybe five tops, with any real idea of what they are seeing or reporting on. The other 90% feed of the frenzy they create for themselves, reporting on what someone else is reporting. No checking, no original thought, never an original question. And what they write is far too often taken as gospel

Im here in Nova Scotia Canada, Mr Trump. I truly wish your media sources could all be a little more transparent. Between the New York Times and CNN, we can all see trends developing way before they happen. Major trends in consumer buying patterns that originate in the U.S. are often reflected here in Canada. In other words, a major downturn in U.S. consumer confidence and a corresponding slowdown in major purchases can sometimes be mirrored here in the Canadian market. I think that more positive, news worthy reporting is a must, you had said "Do they know that power includes responsibility? Do they even know what they are doing?" I doubt it,I believe being a company owner my bottom line is suffering because of this "doom and gloom" not fit to print reporting. Its time to be a little more positive and truthful, maybe then wars would not continue because of hate.

Share your sentiment re. the NYT but insist we raise the visibility of the estimated 100,000 CIVILIANS (mostly women, children and the elderly) killed during and after the US invasion. Cluster bombs don't discriminate. And destroyed water treatment systems kill as well as a bullet.

I live in Argentina. Here we see what really happens in Irak. It´s horrible. Not only the U.S. soldiers died (most of them from Latin America). Every day I see civilians in Irak dying with no reason. And I see it on TV. I don´t know what you see in U.S. Or what does CNN shows.
U.S. government has bad strategists. Why? Because in long wars is more possible to lose more than what you win. And I still don´t know why this "war" against nobody has not finished.
Which country will be the next target? And for what reason?
Good luck.
Alejandro.

"All the news that's fit to print" can be rephrased to "All the fits we have, we sprint to hype into news." Philosophical views run amock, as balanced and factual reporting suffers.
