Turn the New Job Boom to Your Advantage

Tired of your job? Stop complaining about it and dust off your résumé. The job market hasn't looked this good since the dot-com boom several years ago.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are about 2.6 million people leaving their jobs each month. While those employees are out looking for greener pastures, that means lots of job openings.

So don't procrastinate. You have to strike while the iron is hot because industry watchers predict that this current job boom will be short-lived. Those jobs will be filled quickly or, even worse, employers will decide they don't need to fill those positions after all. Then your window of opportunity will be closed big-time.

The key is to figure out what you want to do with your career. As I've said before, if you're not happy with your current job, then stop doing it. Love what you're doing or find something else.

This hot job market is your chance to make a change. No more excuses.

I'M A SINGLE MOTHER, 43. WORKED ALL MY LIFE . . . BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE ARE FAMILY & DEDICATION, WHICH HAVE FALLEN THROUGH THE CRACKS.
WE NEED A SHOW THAT PROVIDES THE USA WITH CONFIDENCE OF A FUTURE FOR FAMILIES.

Build your staff on a solid foundation and reach new heights no one else has yet . . . It's not a game. It's very serious business.

You are absolutely corrrect, Mr. Trump. I want nothing more than to get out of the military and engage my entrepreneurial spirit fulltime, but it would be rather stupid to get out of the military when I am 3 years away from a 50% pension. I'm sure you would agree it would be stupid to throw that away.

Thank you for your influence and God bless.

The job market is hot, but just dusting off the ol'resume is not enough. Competition is the key and having a marketable edge is the solution. Just as building highrise condos is a market, BUT building them Green and Healthier for FUTURE generations, decreasing our foreign energy dependancy is a MARKETING EDGE. Building a resume should not only state who you are today, but what your potential as an employee for the company is into the future. What is your BOTTOM LINE VALUE over time.

Wow, thanks for the tip, Mr. Trump. Does this also apply to resident foreigners as well?

I learned from experience that you have to make the best impression you can in about 43.8 seconds. It's show them what you got fast, make them want what you got more later. Then give it to them at a premium, for your mutual convenience, in the form of revenue.

It's always a good idea to be on the look out for opportunity- no matter what the picture looks like. One tool that I have found that really helped me to whip my resume and cover letter into shape was Trump University's "Get That Job" audio program. It was well worth the price- but don't wait until the last minute- it takes about a week to be delivered.

As far as the pension goes, you need to calculate the losses and benefits. Add up what the pension will bring you over your realistic life expectancy, then add up what you realistically expect your plans will bring you if you get out three years early. In some cases, ditching the pension might be the better alternative.
And while this might be a good time to job hunt, there is no bad time.

In the early 90's, I was stuck with an inadequate income and a ba

One more thought. In these days of outsourcing, it might be a better idea to start your own business. If you look at the Apprentice candidates, very few of them are working for anyone but themselves. There are a lot of ways to sell your talents on the side while working in your current job. It's a win-win situation.

Nevertheless, I'll add that the job market right now for "Search Marketers" (internet marketers) is pretty hot. To me it seems that we, the Search Marketers are on one boat that sails about 5 miles in front of the "Coprorate" boat. I mean, we've been doing this search stuff for years now and only recently did the rest of the business world decided to go after more than just Traditional branding. Good news.

Mr. Trump...

I have started reading your blog today, and this posting is very interesting to me. I will keep reading to hopefully draw some of your wisdom and inspiration. Thank you. I look forward to seeing you speak in New York in November.

Here is a question for you. Bob worked for employer X. During his time with employer X, Bob developed a product. Bob later accepted a job with employer B. Employer X was not happy but wished him well and offered him the chance to work on the product moving forward.

Bob starts his new job with employer B. He tells employer B about the project he was working on and Employer X's wish that he continue on if possible. Bob arranges a meeting with Employer X and Employer B to discuss the possibilities. During the meeting, Employer B acts like an ass and totally turns off Employer X. After the meeting, Employer X asks Bob to quit his new job at Employer B and work as as outside contractor on the project he developed while working for him.

Question: Do you think this was unethical? This is a true story and Employer B in this case wants to sue Bob for the revenue to be earned on the project.

Life is too short to spend doing something that doesn't bring you joy. About 1/3 of your adult life will be spent working. That is a lot of time, and time is a non-renewable resource. Don't just spend your time, invest it in something about which you are passionate.
