Life-changing advice from Trump University's course, How to Build a Fortune

"You have to be positive every single day. You have to put effort into it daily, because no one else is going to do it for you."

Get out of your own static comfort zone by moving forward with momentum and power that positive thinking can give you. Every time a negative thought comes at you, zap it. Replace it with a positive thought. That takes energy, but the result will be stamina - positive stamina, a necessary ingredient for success.

Sometimes you just have to be tough. I use the example of a brick wall. Is there a brick wall in your way? Fine, that happens. But you have a choice. You can walk away from the wall. You can go over the wall. You can go under the wall. You can go around the wall. You can also obliterate the wall. In other words, don't let anything get in your way. Get a balance, and then let the positive outdistance the negative. Be positively persistent.

Optimism can be learned, and it can make a huge difference in life. No matter how large and intimidating a challenge might be, facing it with optimism is the thing you can do to manage, shape and eventually triumph over it.

The bottom line: Trash the pessimistic attitude.

It's so true that attitude is everything but I still need to be reminded on occasion.Life has a way of throwing you a curve ball every once in a while. It's great to hear from successful people who understand how important the right attitude is.No matter what book I read or seminar I attend in the field of wealth creation or self growth it always starts with having a positive attitude.
Thanks for the reminder!

Quite right! I really love your attitude, Mr. Trump, as it is so infectious! Negative people are hard to swallow and you just have to squash their pessimism with positive thoughts... kill 'em with kindness, in a sense.
It just keeps getting better...
Thank you for your brilliance, Mr. Trump!

Your right on Don. I own a steak company, and sometimes I will go door to door selling steak. Its all a head game, and all in the numbers. It would be very easy for me to say "forget it" and go home. If I did that, then I would not have the customer base I have today, and I would be wraping the steaks for the boss, instead of selling them for a profit.

Very commendable Mr.Trump. It never cease to amaze me the different ways pessimists and optimists see the world. I always preach:the power is in our minds(thinking) and our tongue(vocalizing). If on a daily basis one goes about confessing that they have a knack for bad luck, then guess what? Bad luck will continually follow. And vice versa.

Donald, I think we have the same spirit and never indulging our emotion. In fact, that I saw surround me that so many people are ill feeling and negative spirit. I feel pity with those people! Actually, I hate to be grumble, complaint and anger. For those people, suddenly, I always change attitude to them because they always condemn my spirit. They expect to treat people like a dog who follow their instruction without using brain. Donald, I love do business because of business, no mix personal things for business! Sounds critical and ridiculous for some people, however, THAT'S ME!

You are singing my song! I spend my days working with clients on "re-framing" their thoughts and often use the imagery of a wall to allow them to identify what is holding them back in their life/business. Seeing what can be on the other side of that wall can help to increase the desire to get beyond it, to stretch and to grow. I would love to keep this post in my office, Mr. Trump!

One thing that I would like to share to blogger here. Sometimes is very funny in my country. When someone wants to appear as a successful then people surround her/him as her/him to sing a song. My question is "Are you interesting with her idea or her song?" I believe Donald Trump falling in love with current wife not because she show her body to him, but because his chemistry works to her. For particular people, to acting in public is a shameful. The more you stop me to speak, the more my words are bitchy! SO LISTEN TO ME because I represent most opinion of my people! I always keep motto in my life "Give respect to people and gain respect from people" Anybody of blogger agree with my motto? E-mail me!

I need to copy this and attach it to my bathroom mirror, so I remember it first thing every day. No one knows the potential that I have more than you do and yet my biggest enemy is negative thoughts. Sometimes they lose and I write something awesome. Sometimes they win and so much time is lost. The biggest thing we have to fear is fear itself- and the biggest lesson that I may have to learn to develop the discipline of self-esteem is simply what you say here- that I have to remain positively persistent and not let the negative thoughts win. No matter what life has thrown at me, I have always beaten it. Sometimes I do incredible things without even trying- just talking and saying what I think. Thank you for reminding me of the one thing that I must do that is most important to win- remain positively persistant.

Your absolutely right...you have to wake up and smile and say today could be the day I do the deal of the decade! No one wants to do business or even meet a negative person. A nice crisp suit always does it for me. Even Sears has nice suits these days! But, expect to run into negativity and throw up a forearm. There is big money in negativity ABC, NBC, CBS a bunch of movies and jerry springer.

Man, oh man... some days are easier than others... You know what it is? Some people are habitual complainers...I encountered that today w/a co-worker... it was non-stop, from the moment she walked through the door... finally, I could take no more and looked at her with a straight face and said, "Yeah, it's a lot like brain surgery." She was a bit taken aback, but, she shut the hell up real fast. She's used to everyone absorbing all of her negativity! Not me... not today... not ever! I'm not going to be brought down

Optimism and trying to be positive is one of the things that can help you forward in business and in life. Sometimes it is hard to stay positive, but I always go back to my feelings: when do you feel good? Not when you are negative, but when you are positive. That always puts me back on track. Since I started a course at Trump University I have reached my business goals better and within a few months I made a promotion, without asking for it!

This is great advice. I think as a boss it is absolutely critical to keep a positive attitude even in the worst of times. Staff members tend to feed off the boss. If the boss is positive it is more likely that his staff will be too. I think a good boss is one who is optimistic and honest about the daily events at the company. A boss who is positive and drives a "can do" message across will help himself, his staff and the entire company succeed. There are so many bad things going on in the world today, but life in the US is what one makes of it, I think we need to count our blessings, be optimistic and not sweet the small stuff which I think we all forget as we immerse ourselves in the rigors of our daily lives.

Thank you Mr. Trump for a much needed pep talk today. I've hit rock bottom before and know the power of positive thinking, and taking action with determination behind an ultimate goal. It does work. I find myself once again, immensely challenged, and again, it is not easy to employ this wisdom. But being reminded

I absolutely agree that the power of positive thinking is a must both in business as well as personal life. Everyday when I wake up I make it a point to say out loud I feel healthy, I feel terrific, I feel happy! And my day starts with motivating my staff to newer heights of productivity and pride. Thankyou Mr Trump for making a huge difference in my life!

Mr. Trump,

You always give such advice; this time is no different. I've really realized that when one member of a team has a bad attitude it really affects performance. Quite the opposite though if one memeber has an over exuberant positive attidtude it affects the team positively; ultimately getting more work done!

I have definitely benefited a lot of your books, CD rom classes that I've purchased, and other advice you've given!

Some days you must make hard decision to save and grow your business, which may mean cutting staff, reducing expenses -
but I agree you must do these things with the acknowledgement that you are making the right decisions.
Beware though to get caught in what I call "positive fluff" with action and determination means nothing.
Here's to success!!

I totally agree with your article Mr. Trump, "Be Positive Every Single Day"
What makes a successful doctor, lawyer, plumber, musician, salesperson? Confidence in themselves and enthusiasm for what they are doing. Of course the person has to know their stuff, they have to be the expert and the authority in their own field, but unless they have confidence in themselves and enthusiasm for what they are doing, they can fall flat on their faces. I've seen top students in school fail miserably in life while average or even poor students become rich and successful. I'm sure you've seen that too. This is the technique I use to boost my confidence: Act as if it were impossible to fail.
[-] Posted by Irfan Iqbal on 09/07/2006 1:47 PM
Well as Rebecca has said, you just cannot win the game unless you play the game and I am in!
You need to keep the same positive attitude everyday in order to beat everything in your path to success!!

Speak life not death is my personal mantra or philosphy. Our very words have such effect on our outlook, health, and how others perceive us. No one likes to associate with someone who constantly pulls them down. In business we can generate more affirmative associates, close more deals, and salvage what other might consider lost causes with a positive outlook. This is not to say it's not important to look at all sides of a situation. Rosey glasses need to be removed so we don't get hit

Under 7 months ago my father passed away at the age of 52, although it has been one of the hardest times in my life instead of falling in a heap I have decided to pick myself up, brush myself off and go ahead with the dedication and determination that nothing will get in my way, life is precious make the most out of it. Now 25 yrs old, I have for years now gone out on my own to establish a successful business. The road isn't always easy however persistence will definately see you through no matter what the challenge. More people should be exposed to your kind of thinking style Mr Trump, it instills beliefs in individuals such as myself that you can get over any brick wall no matter how tall or solid it is. Heartfelt Thank you from Australia

When I was younger I worked for a friend of yours, John Tigrett, at the time I was 19 or 20; he was in his 70's. I asked him once "When you were my age and making deals how did you get businessmen much more successful than yourself to take you seriously?" His frank reply "I didn't let them take me any other way. He always saw himself as a success and since that day I have too!

Hi.. I'm an optimist. Still, at times too many negatives get in the way & like you said.."You just have to find a way to zap them & get them out of the way". One thing I have to add is to stay away from negative people as they will bring you down. Your positive pep talk is helpful & reassuring.

Do a Google video search for "thesecret.tv" and watch the movie--it is more reinforcement for maintaining a positive attitude.

It is probably true that a positive attiude comes before success, but it is a tremendous challenge for someone that "tried that" and failed there too--and now the failure is personal and even harder to overcome. Sure I could always try harder and that might eventually work, but man is it easy to accept defeat. I've felt defeated for several years now and am still looking for ways out of my hole. I'm glad to hear it works for the rest of you.

The wall, as mr.Trump has put it, it can take a while to go across it but the main thing to remmeber here is that every day is a new day and if you stay determined the wall will start to get weaken and one day it will break and you will be able to walk right through it.

Several years ago I started developing a philosophy I call "The Minimalist Philosophy". This philopophy simply stated is, "You have to have oxygen. You have to have nourishment. You have to have sleep. Everything else is a blessing."
With this redefining of my life, I have managed to simplify my life immeasurably on many levels while treating all the extras with thanksgiving. I no longer fill my thoughts with acquiring more "things". However, I cut to the chase of developing more important concepts of those ideas that truly help me live a significant life.

I am a very happy person. I learned early in my life the enormous power of positive thinking over negative thinking.
I had many reasons to think negatively, one of them was that my parents passed away when I was 15 and I had to start out on my own. Instead of being sad, I used it as a challenge and I relized I have all the freedom in the world to make choices and decisions others could not who were controlled

I am very much agree with this comment. But in our relegion five times prayer is very good practice to make himself truthful with all characteristics. I am Pakistani and in our daily routin of life we are engulfed in many more irritations therefore positive attitude is seldom visible; however; positiveness is not based on only five times prayers but it is based on our mind set . so in my opinion we must change our mind set then this positiveness may come.

***You have an opportunity here***

OK, like-minded people here. I wrote an almost identical version of this including the wall illustration (except I also included the option of putting in a door so you could go through the wall) as a young journalist attending the local community college.

This is obviously a popular entry which shows there is a real demand for motivational materials. Have you considered expanding your lines to include motivational books, posters, and other items or linking with an organization such as Successories? - A web site well worth visiting. This blog has some interesting quotes you may be able to include on your TShirt lines. I loved the one below contributed by Hali Chambers on 09/07/2006 8:24 PM "Shift happens. Attitude is a CHOICE."
