Only minutes into the season's first episode last night, Donald J. Trump stunned the contestants by asking them to build a tent in the backyard of his LA mansion. He hardly knew the contestants - they had only given him their names and professional credentials. He hadn't even divided them into teams.
They were probably expecting a task like those that the teams tackled last year, like launching a new video game in a WalMart or planning a charity fundraiser. Instead, they faced a cardboard box packed with a canvas tent and tent poles. They looked as stunned and confused as steers at a cattle auction.
But as they opened the box and got started, the wisdom of Mr. Trump's task hit me. I saw that he had given the contestants a task that offered each of them just two choices. Each contestant could look like a follower by waiting for instructions. Or each contestant could step out aggressively, take charge and alienate everyone else, only minutes into the new season.
Two of the contestants took the second of those choices. Heidi did her best to take control in a positive way. She said that she had camping experience and started giving guidance about how to get the tent built. But then Frank, another contestant, realized that he was losing his chance to shine. Whistling and shouting instructions, he staged a sickening grab for power. He was so loud and obnoxious that he disturbed Mr. Trump in his distant vantage place high in the mansion.
As these events unfolded, I realized that the tent-building task was a subtle and brilliant assignment from Mr. Trump. In fact, it offered the contestants the same challenges that all of us face early in our careers.
As you start on your path to success, you can wait and watch and learn from others, which makes you look unambitious for a while. Or you can shoulder ahead of your peers, which makes you look too ambitious and aggressive.
Those are two options that all of us must consider early on in our careers. And temporarily, both of them make you look bad.
Thanks to their assertiveness, Heidi and Frank gained an immediate edge over the other contestants when Mr. Trump selected them as team leaders for this week's main task: To run a car wash for the day, with the higher-earning team becoming the winner.
Both teams bungled that assignment badly. In the limited time she had, Heidi couldn't generate any traction from her team. Frank was a lot worse, and his lower-earning team lost the challenge. He should have been fired for his obnoxious attitude, for disappearing when he should have been leading strategically and for poisoning his team's spirit with his vicious backbiting.
In the end, a contestant named Martin was fired because of some ill-chosen statements he made. The first thing he said to Donald J. Trump - to Donald J. Trump! - was that he would like to hug Mr. Trump, but that he needed to go to the bathroom first. (!?!?!). Then later in the show, Martin seemed even dumber when he told Ivanka that he felt tired. (Why not just walk up to her and say, --Please fire me NOW!)
But to tell you the truth, I am not sure I learned too much from the carwash task. I learned a lot more from the tent-building assignment.
It reminded me that leadership is not something you can achieve in your first ten minutes on a job. It takes months, even years. Sometimes you take the lead, sometimes you show that you are a good colleague. And at all times, you display a positive attitude.
Rome, the old saying goes, wasn't built in a day. Neither is success. I believe that we will see that principle at work in the weeks to come, as the real leaders rise to the top. I think that Carey, Heidi, Muna, Nicole and Tim all have what it takes to make that happen.
In the weeks to come, we'll all find out who stands and who falls in this ultimate job interview. I can't wait to watch and find out. And I bet you can't either.

I read this quote on foxnews.com concerning the 1-4-07 Superheated ash and lava visible inside the cone of the Soufriere Hills volcano, Olveston, Montserrat. I THINK IT FITS.
perhaps is better to come back at finish well what I*ve started, but from yesterday I burden inside a felling that something is missing in heaven, with your permission...I*ve looked at the final meeting and the class Mr. Trump gaved once more..Martin philosopher..have done some papers as Frank was absent..but both have quality*s...look, perhaps Andrea Lake spoke about joining the apprentice once more, she said, SURE!! When The Aprrentice All Stars Series will have place...I would be courious after how many time will take that Special Edition place? All Stars mean the whole Teams...I don*t know why I will be curious to see how the time reveal the class Mr. Trump gaved to each one of them as seed, how the time will grow that seed or loose it
NEPOTISM is a discrace you have fired Carolyn because she was becoming popular and sucessfull.. I guess when you Preach success Mr Trump you want it for your self and your children....Nepotism you should be ashamed of yourself..
On a more positive note, there are some extremely talented people on this seasons Apprentice. I really liked Angela. To me she seemed like someone who could take the lead, but who first wanted to work her way up. I also think Heidi would make a great employee(from what I've seen so far). This should be an intresting season.
However I am 53 years old in a wheelchair and got my B.A. degree May of 2006, currently I am in a graduate program at Calif State University Dominguez hills. I sincerely hope that one day I will get to meet and speak with you, even though I am in a wheelchair I still know I can be an asset to your apprentice show and but heads with the best of them. I worked for the IRS for 25 years as a Revenue Officer. My husband and I are attending a show here in Los Angeles that your son is doing. I am a Scorpio born November 6th 1953. As far as Rosie O'Connell you can handle it.
Good Luck,
Maybe one day I will get to meet you and learn about yoursecretsd for wealth.

Having worked in small to large corporate settings, I found myself in utter disbelief at the decision to "fire" Martin or Frank.
Had I been Mr. Trump, and having seen the reaction of Frank to the firing of Martin, I would have immediately reversed my decision and fired Frank.
I base this on a fundamental professional etiquette. No one expected to take on the role of "apprentice" in an organization the size of the Trump organization should be able to grin and voice enthusiasm and the release of any team member. This was completely unprofessional and entirely unethical.
Martin may not have been, or would not have turned out to be a good fit with the organization, however I am confident that he would not have been so immature as to visibly express excitement at the demise of a colleague's opportunities.
I feel that it should have come down to Frank, Project Manager, or Tim, Sales lead. The both should have been cognizant of the abilities of each of the team members and assigned and reassigned based on strenghth and weakness. Once it was determined that Martin was the weak link, an immediate change would have been in order, instead of continuing to monitor a situation that was clearly failing. On that same note it would have been appropriate for Martin to acknowledge and request a change in his role when he recognized he was not Upselling at a reasonable rate.
This is my opinion and I would welcome seeing Martin rejoin the group, or the firing of Martin immediately for unprofessional behaviour.
Far be it for a simple lawyer and communications consultant from Canada to provide advice. Nonetheless, Mr Trump, having recently bested certain adversaries, ought to build a tent in THEIR back yard.
He should start his own talk show. We will all watch. So will they.

I watch them... They're great person. their behavior, talent and instinc. Even each of them so tempramental, lose control, use their ego, even so crazy and disgusting...
But, Bill and Kwanme so, so great.
Anyway I found this headline in the news section of the headline news off my home page.
It reads ----> " The Model of Insanity "
It seems I needed to place it here for some reason. I'll have to read the article again and find out why.
See ya,
