You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself. - Galileo
I am a competitive person and to me, that’s a good thing. Staying competitive is the opposite of being complacent. Complacency is the ultimate enemy of success.
In fact, when people ask me how to achieve great success, I usually explain that the most important first step is to get out of their comfort zone, which is a bad place to be.
If you are happy in your comfort zone, you need to move out of it. How else can you find the greatness that lies within you? That means confronting your weaknesses and not just admiring your own strengths. Doing that means getting your ego out of the picture and asking questions of people who know more than you do about how to achieve success. In short, it means self-examination and the hunger to learn new things.
I don’t just direct this kind of thinking toward others and what I think they should do with their lives. I direct it toward myself too. I compete very hard with myself, which is the ultimate form of competition. Trying to best yourself can make your aspirations and your achievements even more significant.
For example, the readers and writers of Business Week voted me one of the top 10 most competitive businesspeople on the planet. To me, that is a great honor. I could have coasted for quite a long time on a credential like that. But instead, I let it drive me to do more and make even more significant things happen in my life.
Unless you plan to spend your time in a café, sipping cappuccino and watching life go by, I’d advise you to take similar steps towards making what you want happen in your life actually happen. The fact that you are reading this article now gives me a strong indication that you’re not a café type, but someone who is serious about success and achievement.
There is an old riddle that brings this to light: Five frogs were sitting on a log. Four decided to jump off. How many were left? Answer: Five. Why? Because there’s a difference between deciding and doing.
Think about that one for awhile and see if it pertains to you. If it does, there’s still time to get going and start making great things happen.

Ever since I started giving comments in this blog, I enjoy coming back to hear what you have to say... The others are also giving me real good stuff to ponder about to...
I don't know about others... But I realise myself that doing a business is a way of finding the greatness within ourselves... As we indulge ourselves more and more, we will start to see a picture of ourselves... Whether we are lazy or stupid on the negative side... Or we are great leaders, making great things happening on the positive side... We will start to see our weaknesses revealed before ourselves and to the people around us... We will start to look into improving them... We will also start to see where our strength is... And make really good use of it to the max while we can...
Whatever it is, it's the will in us to make it happen... It's not really about our knowledge or strength because they will be learnt in the process... The willingness in us will make the difference... And also making us uncomfortable too... (out of comfort zone...) But the results are great! Results may not be in terms of business success... Results can be in terms of mistakes learnt along the way...

To all bloggers, my words only say "Good Luck to All of you!"
Wow !
Right to the point ! That little story is Good! It's Deep ! Powerful Lesson !
Decision ...Action... Thank You Sir . Post some more !
You make good points.
however, when do you sit vs. when to jump
maybe the frogs decided to jump later, or they where waiting for the right time to jump, the decision was made but timing is very important? If someone was given the opportunity to make money in the short term vs. invest that time in a personal venture towards success what is the best decision? Without losing complete site of a personal venture, do you take the money while you can get it and maybe invest it in the personal ventures, or do I invest my time, with no immediate compensation into the personal venture that has potential to make me (hopefully) more money that anyone would ever pay me? I'm always pro making more money, but I don't want to miss the window of opportunity with my personal venture either...
So deciding is important, but the timing in making the jump is critical too... and when its make money today, or spend the same time trying to make money tomorrow? do you bank on a dream? or take the paycheck??
Personally I'm in this situation, and Im taking the money now while I can... but putting a limit on it, and trying to see if I can't sub-contract so I can make some money and still have time to invest...
DON - I'm Going to make it!!!

I'm Bill Benway and a year ago I started a website called SexGunsAndMotorcycles.com dedicated to the preservation of gonzo journalism and outlaw literature a la William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski and Ernest Hemingway.
It's been a year of hard work, done mostly after midngiht by the light of a computer screen and the taste of cheap whiskey on the rocks. But no one was going to do it for me, but as if on a mission from HST himself I've kept at it and a year later, thanks in part to the Trump philosophy of loving what you do and never giving up, the site is going strong and will be keeping the gonzo fires burning for a long time to come.
So to any who doubt the wisdom of the Donald's advice, I say it's themselves they doubt and their ability to commit to digging in and doing what it takes to get ahead. To quote the Rocky Horror Picture Show:

You invited me to a foreclosure event - which I plan to go to.
Here is my thing about foreclosures, and I will let you know up-front, I do not have detailed knowledge about them. What bothers me about making money through them is this -
I do believe in negotiations and money making everything needs to be a win-win, as you do. I like feeling good about the money I make.
My father bought us a nice home in the early 80's for $130,000 and at the time his income was $100,000. Now, many families in California and other states are earning $70,000 (give or take) as household incomes and yet they are being given mortgages that allow them to invest in $250,000 to (What?) $600,000? homes? Whether they chose variable or fixed, the one thing that keeps crossing my mind when I go to the bank and mortgage companies and see young people, in their early twenties, who are making these decisions of lending, who do not have an education in finance, or in anything - or who may be in the process of getting their degrees as the bank pays for it with the money that people pay in mortgages...
Anyway, what I am getting at is this, did the banks/mortgage companies, who are the most educated parties in these lending situations, who are fully aware of the harm that was to come to many - were they perhaps lacking in their due diligence and fiduciary responsibility at the time of signing to the many Americans who are now in trouble? And perhaps, should they now be held accountable for balancing the scales by adjusting the mortgage interest rates?
For example, I realize the compounded interest that I have on a $40,000 mortgage I have, if paid out over the 15 year loan, will be around $120,000 with principal. Would it not be more responsible on their part, and yet still profitable, for me to pay a flat, one-time, non-compounding interest - so that in those 15 years I actually only pay $50,000 back to the bank?
Have the banks/mortgages companies employees profited personally through their own incomes to such a high degree over the years that they slacked on fiduciary responsibilty and due diligence? Thus, should they now be held accountable for correcting this?
This is my thoughts since the damage has grown so widespread, and will continue to, if my observation(s) are correct.

Too many people sit back and play the victim. Get out and do something I say, toughen up and push your self, don't let other people walk over you. I agree, to become successful you have to be competitive in nature, you also have to be stubborn and ignorant to some extent too! Being a recent graduate I have noticed this in my workplace, and am trying to associate myself with these people. Success breeds success! I have changed my thinking as you can read in my <a herf=http://graduate22.blogspot.com>blog</a>. Go with the flow, stand up and be heard, mix with the best and just have fun along the way. This has helped me through my transition into the demanding workplace.

I truely belive that the real power is always inside of us.
I would like to share some words:
"Power (knowledge of money if you want!) is not good nor bad... shows you how you really are!"
Thanks for sharing your thoughts to all of us and let us know, how much we would like to do in life!

You always have been right about what you say and you are right you are very competitive.
Very good advice! Exactly like what I tell my peers, who do not want to seek success but merely talk bout it.
I like the old saying of the frogs, been a while since I heard it.

Sometimes I can hardly process your thoughts because they are so powerful. To have achieved as much success as you have achieved, and to resist the temptation to sit back and watch the world go by- it's amazing!
No wonder you are drawn to Fresno. We have a never-ending source of real estate debacles and adventures awaiting you!
Hope to see you soon,

There have times in the past that complacency almost ruined my life. I had to learn the hard way to be a better boss for myself.
I'm searching for a place where I can leave my comfort zone after reading your Brilliant post.
Great work from a Great Man.
I will pass on your riddle of the "Five Frogs" - I love it!
There is an old riddle that brings this to light: Five frogs were sitting on a log. Four decided to jump off. How many were left? Answer: Five. Why? Because there’s a difference between deciding and doing.

I fully agree with you thoughts.
I recently posted a blog post in my blog about "Inner Quest" - http://www.rajeshshakya.com/inner-quest.htm.
It's a matter of how you want to lead your life? You need to understand, who you are first, what you are capable to do and what you can do in the best way? Choose the best of your capabilities and focus on that. Try to ignore others ( I know you can not completely ignore rest of the things.) If you can not lead your life, it’s sure that others will come into your way and they will lead your life. If you are not clear on something what you are doing, concentrate! Give some time! When you know what changes you are going to make, you will know how to make changes. I am sure, you will find many choices and you can make better decision. Greatness within yourself starts there...
Cheers,

I recently attended the Wealth Seminar In Chicago where your daughter
represented Trump University & your Corporation. We were very impressed with all the speakers. It was an honor to be able to attend.
Complacency recently showed itself in my ex-job in the South Suburbs.
It interferes with finding the truth & in doing the right thing. My name was
forged along with some other drs on malpractice applications & other
credentialing applications. Only myself & another dr actually pursued this, and I am still pursuing this with the largest malpractice carrier in IL
under the supervision of an attorney. I am seeking to clear the slate &
report the finding to the proper authority at the malpractice company.
It has been time-consuming,also holding my career back temporarily. My point is that
there are employers out there willing to take advantage of young, naive
employees and do illegal things for reasons unbeknownst to me. I needed to share my story because complacency seems to be an all-too-common
theme in America these days. People live in fear of everything. Afraid to
speak up for what is right. It seems too many Americans sit back, even
with the awesome tragedies facing our nation today, which affects our
economy. Even doctors do not stick together. We do not have a union.
The AMA and the AOA are not unions. The healthcare system is broken
down. Speak the truth, and the truth will set you free. Complacency is
equivalent to being shackled or placed in a jail. It prevents the freedom
to succeed by going along with the crowd. My interest,as well as my
family member's, is in real estate, entrepreneurship & building wealth.
My younger brother aspires to become like you & "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"'s
author. He's having a hard time renting out his 3 apts at this time in
the south loop of Chicago. I thank you for sharing your knowledge &
speaking frankly about many issues via the internet & CNN as well.
Respectfully, a young female dr,Board Certified, & her Croatian Family
Sincerely,

I always thought that posting on this blog would serve no purpose! I mean who actually reads these posts, not me! However, midway through "Find the Greatness within Yourself," I decided that I would print this post. That's such a simple and powerful message. Chances are I might take one of your courses in the near future. I wasn't impressed with a free one that I took. Eitherway, I do enjoy reading your input and I'm already doing things out of my comfort zone. As far as my post, I think I just did it for the hell of it. Whether you read this or not, thanks Mr. Trump.
To your success,

It's a quiet, comfortable, enemy. Stay on the lookout for it - as Donald does.
It facilitates corruption and often accompanies arrogance. ...Criminal negligence is very often preceded by complacency.
Some say complacency may be partly to blame for "9 11" (early signs ignored leading up to the tragedy).
Only if/when you allow it to, complacency holds the door open for laziness, apathy and corruption to slip in.
Complacent thinkers assume people are being "negative" when they point out systemic flaws or weaknesses. In fact there is no more positive gesture than to assume personal risk for the betterment of society.
Stay sharp folks!! I'd say (one observers opinion only) that among Donald's most redeeming virtues are his sharp awarenesses of complacency, and of arrogance.
Despite obvious and huge successes Donald maintains strong work and teaching ethics.
Where lesser people may succumb to egotism and arrogance, he remains immodest, with a very strong ego, yet he
"manages" to stay relatively humble, very accurate and quite realistic.
As I help my husband in therapy, I observe many people in their training programs, and I see the best results coming from people who pace themselves and enjoy what they are doing. The people who are extremely driven seem to be suffering.
From the moment the Apprentice became reality, I imagine the celebrity pressure increased dramatically. I'm sure that continues to grow with each new enterprise. How are you coping with that?
