The Seventh Deadly Workplace Sin: Lust

Recently, I read an article from Careerbuilder.com about the Seven Deadly Workplace Sins. Last time, I gave you my take on Gluttony. Finally, it’s all about Lust.

First of all, it’s not what you’re thinking. Get your mind out of the gutter. When I’m discussing lust in the office, I mean an intense longing for other people’s success or other people’s work instead of your own. (Not an intense longing for the attractive person in the next cubicle.)

Here, they liken the sin of lust in the office to the “grass is always greener” theory. If you are obsessed with what your co-workers are accomplishing or striving for, then it’s guaranteed that your own achievements will pale in comparison.

Don’t become consumed with anything but your own work and your own triumphs. Any other obsession will create a negative environment and foster resentment and just not be constructive.

In the office, the only passion you should have is for your own work and your own victory. Don’t watch anyone else climb the ladder of success. Focus on yourself and you will succeed.

This is the first rule in My Game.
Focus on your own path.
Don't look right, left, behind.
What ever is needed will come from the front.
Every person on work is part of Game.
Divine Game.
And second, nothing is really real.
It only becomes reallity if I let it to be real.

Donald, I'd like to add something.
Sometimes you see something someone else has and would like the same. Lusting over what they have can consume your thoughts and block you from acheiving the similar for yourself. You CAN NOT have what someone else has IT'S THIERS. Period!
But you CAN possibly acquire a version of it for yourself. How it's intended for you. Granted it DOESN'T include everything someone else has. But usually there is always a variation for yourself.
Example: Quite often people love the look someone else has. You really CAN'T have that same look and survive. IT'S THEIRS!. But you can transfer some of that style to yourself and allow it to grow with you. It becomes YOUR look. The same with any profession. A person CAN NOT have the exact same profession that someone else has. But they can end up with THEIR OWN Their own variation of it.
Why would anyone want a carbon copy of someone else?
Maybe, just maybe, allowing it to work in you may exceed what you've seen in someone else. Good things are always added upon and end up being a compliment to the original.
Take Hollywood for example. Many have tried to copy and or become an actor/actress exactly. Omitting their own personality and have failed in doing so. When they actually could have learned from them and gone on further. Simply using their talents as mentoring. and adding thier own to it. Creating a whole new look. A whole new style. After all the actor/actress may have died a tragic death. Do you want the same?
Take Anna Nicole Smith for example. She fashioned herself after Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe died at an early age. Her life according to statistics was not very happy. Would you really want to end up like that? One thing I must mention. "There was and is only one Marilyn Monroe." It caused me a bit of concern when I saw how closely Anna wanted to mimic Marilyn. It caused me to feel great sorrow. Anna was a beautiful woman and I do believe she could have made it on her own with out trying to mimic Marilyn so closely. Her own true beauty and style could have shown through. At one point I thought to myself "I might like to meet her." Jane Mansfield was another one of Marilyn's time and she ended up tragically as well. It's one thing I hate when women try to look and act like someone else instead of allowing their own beauty to show through. Their own style. In any scenero lust can become obsession and obsession usually ends up turning evil and the obsessed lose greatly. Sometimes their very life. I value my own life too much to do that.
Lust is a negative and negatives usually end up in a mess and losing.
Each individual has their own talents. Their own gifts. But it's up to them to allow these talents and gifts to shine through and that takes a process. Trying to hurry up a process usually ends up becoming great error and can easily distort the true outcome. Therefore not allowing the individual to reap the true reward and guess what their is NO true reward for those who try to steal someone elses identity whether it be lust or not. Only heartache and sorrow and failure. Which is what they were NOT looking for. There is NO peace behind lust. Only agitation and failure. Seeing what somone else has and wanting to exceed it is true success and usually ends in reward if done properly with the right attitude. Donald, you're truely a very successful man and there is a great deal more to come. What people need to do is learn from you not try to steal and move on to surpass you if possible. NOT as a challenge to bury you to steal a place of success. But build on your experiences and go further in their own direction. Hence avoiding lust and possible creating a new direction. Finding out what works for them. A true reward with peace. They CAN NOT copy you. It becomes only a copy and there really is NO success in copies. Only copies and eventually failure.
So avoid lust and move on in freedom. Lust is not freed

Dear Mr. Donald Trump, one of my favorite people:

Your article about reaching the stars is another example of your generous insights to the unknown, that uplifted me this morning. Sipping on my cup of coffee, contributing to the website Helium.com and debating, whether I should go to Sunday service, at a local Hoboken, New Jersey Church is how I've begun this Sunday morning. After reading that article and now just having taken a stretch, I feeling better.

I create, unusually beautiful origami flower, having gotten the introductory exposure to the art form from a past presentation given at one of your NYC locations, years ago. I would like for you to commission a center piece, free of charge, of course, a gesture of thank you, on my part. E-mail me at GADNYNJ@yahoo.com. You can view some of my work at Flicker.com under GADNYNJ.

As of late, I'm working on writing and publishing a book, dealing with the poor; soon to be available on Blurb.com. It will be a soft cover, 7"X7", 26 page, to sell for $21.95. I have the format and I am working on the content. It is being written in simple language, for the common person, and I perceive that it will do good on the market. Wish me luck.

Thank you, Mr. Donald Trump, for you generosity and good luck in
New Jersey!!

Dear Donald,
Lust is a negative emotion and too many people look on at their co-workers who receive credit and adulation for their successes in their workplace and within other organisations. What people fail to realise is that those who achieve their successes is due to their own efforts to do the basics RESEARCH, have a mind that never tires to ask WHY, and examine every situation in detail making countless observations and having clear goals and objectives. These people are quiet achievers who have the gift of obsessive thirst to understand situations and see the big picture. The people who achieve excellence are able to step outside of the square and are able to apply advanced concepts, employ technology and Common Sense and originality to provide financially sound and implementable solutions that others can understand and follow. COMMUNICATION IS CRUCIAL to enable these quiet achievers to command the respect and cooperation of the decision makers within an organisation to implement their ideas. Also I must add that in many cases these highly creative people must be prepared to change employers to have their ideas listened to and acted on.

In my case I resigned from the National Australia Bank where I was employed as a Business Analyst to conduct Capacity Plans based on research, investigations and numerous interviews to all divisions where I had to educate senior management about their historical usage of computer resources of online transaction systems and off-line batch processing work. And establish their ( divisional ) goals, plans and aspirations and translate all the input from each division head to create a strategic business plan spanning the next two years. Also I had the role of providing long term 7-year strategic direction plans taking into account new technologies that would reach maturity in line with planned new products so each new business application would be delivered using state of the art technology and methodology that left the competition gasping. I apologise for the length of this paragraph the point is that on my resignation two things astounded me. First I was required to work the two weeks until my resignation took effect, this was unheard of in a financial institution no one in living memory was permitted to continue working as they were perceived as a security risk - this showed me how important my work was and the organisation perception that my abilities and my integrity was such that I had such respect and trust. Secondly I began receiving phone calls and visitors to my cubicle to say " I am so sorry you are leaving this organisation needs good communicators and your skills are what this organisation needs". I left to another Bank where I doubled my salary and achieved the level of Senior Systems Analyst four levels more senior than my position at the previous employer. Many were stunned and could not understand how I could make such a leap - my Manger and his Senior Manager could not appreciate or recognise my abilities.

Lust is a quality that drives high achievers to do the impossible and show the way to others who can not grasp what it takes to succeed.

Hello Donald,
The grass is greener on the other side! Only for cows. We must be careful of what we wish/lust for. We might just get it.

Re: work, I lust for I DO BETTER, WHEN I KNOW BETTER. Things are not what they seem. What we see in others is our image, not what is real. We see a happy, balanced worker, and believe the job makes it so. Instead of wanting what another has, we should study their attitude. This will lead us to the same level of success. Good example: many have wanted to be me, because I refuse to stay down, and will laugh before i cry. I could do a PITY PARTY, tried that a few times. Didn't work, self pity, will stop you dead in your tracks. To want what another has is scary, because I don't know what they have, only what I think they have.

take care
Farm Girl, Yelm, WA.

I agree and respectfully add that 'impersonators' are cheap and rob themselves of exercising independent thinking and getting to know themselves and defining their own lives, interests, and values. In effect, they are always 'second place' to whom they are copying, and will never be better than who they copy. That is a sad thought and I think only lazy people do that. I agree that you should put your own style or lens on successful lessons you learn or see.

Lust is an issue that men have had to dealt with since the beginning of time. Of course, having a beautiful wife diminishes our lusting after women at the office. Personally, since I don't have a girlfriend, I use my imagination in the shower every morning so that my testosterone levels stay low during the 9-5 candy treats at the office.

Why did I have to be cursed being a poor man, Mr. Trump?

Why do all the rich men get the most beautiful women?

Regardless of the location or the object - attractive person next door or job assigment - lust is hungering for what you can't have, and with your attention on what you lack, you overlook what you have already. I have never seen a happy person who exhibits this focus. Lust is another one of those things that eats people up and leaves them bitter. I always figured if the grass is greener on the other side, find out what they are doing different than you and apply the same stewardship: mulch it, thatch it, water it, fertilize it, treat it for bugs. Then, do them one better. Plant some flowers and trees.
