Recently, I wrote several blogs about the Seven Deadly Workplace Sins. Now I’m taking a look at the four Cardinal Virtues: justice, fortitude, prudence and temperance. These are great qualities to have in your personal life and they can carry over to help you thrive in the business world.

Last time I looked at justice; now it’s time for a little fortitude. For me, bravery is one of the most important characteristics to have professionally. If you don’t have the courage to make bold decisions and to take chances, then there’s no way you’ll distinguish yourself from everyone else in the workplace.

It can be very frightening at times to make daring moves and take dangerous risks, but the people who have the guts and show the fortitude to make those precarious decisions are usually the ones who vault ahead of others when it comes to success. They’re the ones who are able to confront danger and fear, uncertainty and intimidation and tackle it successfully.

People with fortitude are the people I always want on my team. They’re never overly cautious and exceedingly protective. They know the risks that come with gambles, yet they have the courage to take those chances. And they almost always pay off big.

Next up: Prudence

I'm glad to read this today because tomorrow is a start of a new week of work. I have some things at work that aren't exactly the way I would like, so it looks like I should have the courage and communicate with a high authority.

I recall one of your famous words:In the path to success, when facing difficulties that make you in dilemma, you can overcome it,bypass it,but never, never, give up.Yes,that is the explaination of fortitude. In our China, there is a proverb saying"???????????If you can hold on ,even the stone can be pierced by water.) I also firmly believe that just with this spirit can trump and your team be so prominent.

Bravery is ,of course, another essential quality.as we all know that revenue is always in proportion to risk.you can be very ,very successful when taking a gamble,or you may will lose everthing you now own.so that requires you to have a profound insight which can accurately proble into the market.

At last, send my best wishes to you all in Trump University,in Chinese,"???????????

That is so true! Being brave is essential for taking tough decisions to reach our dreams. Mr. Trump, I just became your co-speaker at Learning Annex Wealth Expo. (I spoke at Chicago event last weekend and will present at N.Y. Expo. in 2 weeks). I taught a seminar called "Internet Wealth & Online Success" right before you went on stage on Sunday evening! Your attitude and braveness in life has truly inspired me to reach my own dreams. It's all about believing in our own dreams, success and plans. That belief will 'enroll' others to follow us and to believe in our plans. No one ever made it to the top without taking educated risk. Regards,

Dear Donald,
I read your blog and wish to ask a question; you stated that you welcome people with cardinal virtues ( that you respect and live by ), to join your team. I ask you how do I get to join your team ? I run a Computer Technology business in Australia and on my business card I list the qualities that put my skills and approach to my customers in high demand. I list what I know people are looking for: "Honesty - Caring - Reliable - Professional " and have revised my business card to include "I Never Give Up!"

To me Cardinal Virtues set me apart from everyone else and I am the same in my personal life as in my business life. While Cardinal Virtues are vital to success in your business life often people consider that they have two modes of operation - In Business and in Private life and are judged as false as people are perceptive to the real person and can detect a fraud. People who operate in two modes have trouble in switching between their modes and come unstuck. People who operate in the same manner at all times have nothing to fear and show confidence and charisma and show a zest for life and are recognised as people who can make things happen and people want to know them.

I am not the usual conformist and as a test I at times dress very casually and am testing myself and people who I meet and interact with. What I observe is that people who I value as friends and people I have never met in supermarkets and retail shops detect my MAGIC and respond to me positively. Also I detect the judgement and negative feelings from those who I have been unsure of in the past and this test shows me the calibre of the people I am dealing with. As a point of illustration there is a story maybe urban myth of Mick Jagger ( Rolling Stones ) where he went to an exclusive retail shop dressed in Jeans and was shown disbelief and asked if he could afford to purchase anything in the store, he was subjected to judgement and prejudice for the way he appeared. Mick Jagger was not phased and produced his Gold AMEX card and made the purchases he desired.

I have come across this type of prejudicial judgement at times and at times total rudeness on one occasion I presented my credit card and the sales person looked at me and said that he doubted I could afford to purchase the Rolex watch I was looking at, I suggested that the sales person check with my bank what my credit limit was and on the sales persons return, I was asked if I would like to look at more expensive models - I do not bother with Gold or Platinum cards and my standard Credit cards have high limits. I am not interested in identifying to people I don't know what my real financial status is and like to observe reactions and deal with people who operate from a basis of living by Cardinal Virtues etc. No I did not purchase the Rolex from that shop I went to another shop where I was given excellent service and the sales person did not prejudge me, the sales person to his credit could recognise from the way I communicated that I was a person who could pay and despite my external appearance was a person of value.

I have posted my comment in a previous blog that you wrote The Sixth Deadly Workplace Sin: Gluttony that you do read the comments posted to your blogs and do not feel the need to say further. I feel that you are probing to discover people who possess the skills, abilities and qualities that you value for your own personal success to recruit to work for you. This approach shows that you want people who have the MAGIC to join your organisation, in reading your books, blogs and seeing you in action on the Apprentice I know I have what it takes, all I need is the opportunity.

Yours Sincerely

As defined by Webster's dictionary Fortitude is "Strength of mind allowing a person to withstand pain or adversity couragously."

I'm not sure if it is fortitude or numbness, but I'm still standing.
