I am a huge golf fan and enthusiast. I play to a 5 handicap and DVR most of the PGA tournaments to watch in my down time. Since this week is US Open week and which in my opinion, the biggest tournament stage in the world. I thought about how the US Open relates to business in our current economy and here is what I have come up with.
The US Open is a tournament which anyone with a 1 handicap or better can register to play in qualifier tournaments being held around the country. In other words, it’s OPEN to amateurs and pro’s alike and you don’t have to be a member of the PGA tour to play. You are allowed to go and compete in the global economy with the “BIG BOYS” and let your game do the talking. Similarly, business is modeled the same way.
Even if you aren’t a fortune 500 company, in America you can enter the game of business and get your ideas to the market. Sure, you will have to “qualify” them to an investment bank or otherwise to get funding but at least you have that chance and that is what is exciting.
The US Open is run by the USGA who has a tendency to make the course more challenging for the players than in any other time of the year. It’s not uncommon to see scoring averages much worse than usual and the player’s stats can certainly suffer here. Well, in our current recession, the business climate has also become more of a challenge to find new and creative ways to successfully navigate the “course”.
Many real estate businesses suffer because they don’t know how to adapt to the changing conditions being presented to them. The great news is that the ones who can or even new “amateurs” into the game of real estate investing, can gain market share and succeed on the biggest of stages.
Someone has to win, why not you? Just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

I suppose that I need to pick one thing at a time and FOCUS! (Like Tiger & Jack...and, Mr. Trump, of course). Focus and become really good at one thing, and, then, once that becomes like second nature, THEN, I can consider a balancing act. I have a difficult time focusing on one thing for very long...there are too many things out there...too many books to read, too much news to watch, movies to see, and, with the advent of the internet, an overload of stimuli. I'm getting better, though. I am far more patient than I was in the past, and, people told me that I was patient, then. I guess it all depends on what the comparison analysis is based upon.
I do get it, though. Eliminate the riff-raff...trim the fat...become more efficient, and BELIEVE in my abilities! That's what I'm doing, but, because I don't do what I do for money (right now)...people just think I'm an undercover cop or something. I guess you could say that. I'm on a mission from God! God will let me know when I'm ready to make money. I'm still studying so that when I do it, I will do it the right way.
A few months ago, having arrived back in Florida, after spending three years in NYC, and, a year in Kansas, a successful businessman friend of mine told me... if you have to make like you have blinders on right now, then, do that. In other words...FOCUS! He also told me to read some book, Negotiate by Intimidation...but, I didn't like the name, so I haven't read it yet. I told him that I'm attending TRUMP U. If you're reading this, Andrew, no offense regarding your suggestion. I'm sure that it's a great book! I guess it would be interesting to read how others THINK you should negotiate. Maybe I will read it, just so I'll know what other people are doing, and how they're doing it.
Thanks again for the motivation! I really enjoy Jim Cramer's MAD MONEY, as well...when I can catch it. I don't even know if I want to be a successful businesswoman, but, I love hearing that it is less about nepotism, and, that if you do the work YOU CAN do whatever you want. I love that the elitist attitude is not as prevalent as it was in the past. People are becoming REAL! Swimming with sharks isn't as easy as all of the liars said it was. They were just b.s.ing, pretending that they were doing it.
Thank for sharing your words of wisom on the economy comparison to Us open.
I'm sure there are millions of questions and answers on this topic regarding the ecnomy/recession.
I just don't understand why the government/legislators have to let history repeat itself
whether it's the ongoing war, the economy, recession, budget deficit.
We are living in world of confusion. How can anyone focus if they have too much going on
in their life trying to stay afloat in this competitive world? We live in world that hides from
the truth.
There was a study done in which indicated the number one costly illness in this world was
Psychological. This is very sad but true. Just look around you.
I don't mean to sound negative, but as they say the truth should be told even if it hurts.
Question: Why is Wall street turning into a ghost town with so many companies moving to New Jersey, White Plains etc. because of Real Estate prices?
We all need to help each other out , especialy in these hardhips times.
Just look at all the crisis around the world . I think God is trying to send a message to all of us.
I hope and pray that we can all make a positive differnce to ourselves, family, friends, neighbors etc.
