Cream Still Rises to the Top in the Job Market

How true are these old clichés? “The cream rises to the top” or “the cream of the crop” implies that the “cream” is the best part and as such, comes out somehow the winner or the chosen one. The same can be said metaphorically about talent in business.

Executive search firm Robert Half International, recently performed a study where they surveyed over 4000 finance and human resource managers in 20 different countries and the majority said they are having trouble finding skilled candidates to fill their high level accounting and finance positions. It also showed that when they do find one, the pressure is on them to find creative ways to retain them and keep them happy.

What this should tell people is that quality companies are needing quality people and are willing to pay them handsomely! If you are unhappy with your current job situation, do something about it. Start by bettering yourself and your skill set CONSTANTLY. Keep your education current. Take webinars and business classes in your field of expertise to keep abreast of cutting edge ideas and opportunities to impress any possible employers.

Trump University offers leadership and management courses to help you feel confident in your approach to getting your ideas presented professionally and successfully. Keep your resume updated constantly and be sure to make noteworthy the accolades you have received and training you have sought out. Submit your resume to the proper executive search firms and let them help find a match for you. Companies pay them to deliver great candidates like yourself and it doesn’t hurt to know what your “street value” is or what skills you may be lacking. Doing these well may indeed allow you to be the “cream” rather than the “crop”. It also really helps to learn to be great at business negotiation so brush up on those skills as well.

What other ways can one set themselves apart from the others in this job market?

I, too, have heard of the lack of qualified candidates for jobs in this field you mention in this post. I'm wondering, is it because there are just fewer people graduating from college in these fields? Is it because entry level positions are not lucrative enough to entice someone to start with the goal of growing and climbing? Do you think that employers ought to be offering more in the way of continuing education for employees to enhance their skill sets and knowledge? How much is up to the employer and how much up to the employee? As a home-based business person, essentially a 1-person company, I'm constantly having to educate myself to stay on top...to be the cream of my own cup.

A very good article!...

"What other ways can one set themselves apart from the others in this job market." That is an Interesting question. Lots of ways to win..a good showman is one way.

To be themselves and show them leadership qualitys that match the job qualifications. Maybe bring an advisor of potential contacts/contracts to help them prosper a sale boost. A team player

A firm handshake...does tell the person lots.

I was creme de la creme in Malaysia 1996 a high school graduate chosen to study in Cambridge with a scholarship of Rm130000! Yet I had culture shock and gave up my tertairy education. I entered 10 years later into an ODL university course but 1st year was brilliant 3.8 4.0 for management and marketing such. Luck has it I was troubled by ahubby who was womanizing and also a divorce. I dreamt of a Bruneian Royal who was my boyfriend. He finally married some local girl from Sarawak. I was devastated. But it meant being a girl who is weak is not my true self. I noticed entangling in relationships are troublesome and make my finances weak and my mental capacity reduced because of my preoccupation to be loved! See when I am assertive and efficient a Man thinking he can control my life destroys my plans. I am into entrepeneurship. I am a multi tasker. I just have to refocus myself to my advancement in life plus financial independence. I was so depressed until I was injected valium! I am strong and decided I have so much talent and abilities and some amount of funding "malaysia has schemes to help widows" I leapt up and started to think cream! I started to learn driving, I learn casually Indonesian. When I bargain for jamu or Indonesian herbs I get rock bottom prices! I am glad that Mr Trump wrote How to Be Rich. I was very enticed by it. I now remember I aim for my wealth and health troubles especially with the opposite sex always arises as romance developes. I am now standing up straight like a yoga posture. Past is past what is done cannot be undone. I wish to emulate the positive traits of Mr Trump. I started singing and was given such appraisal from my friends. I write poems and play piano by ear. I too love reading ,daily I must learn up a new skill. Yes the cream remembers her true self.thanks you guys.

Dear Mr. TRUMP:

If you will allow me. I would like to make a comment about out-dated board games. Like sequences to movies that cannot repeat the success of the first. However there are exceptions and a sequal can top the first That is Creaming!..The board game Monopoly is great, but is a little out-dated. My vision is a newer version.
Call it TRUMPONOPOLY; wouldnt that be so much fun??? You could land on all the buildings you built. For example "I landed on Trump Towers" etc. you could land on the 'Board room, where some one will be fired, because they had to file chapter 7". The ideas are endless. Hey I'm a visionary/social scientist. I'm not crazy, just ask my psychyatrist.lol.

But seriously, Why isn't there a DONALD TRUMP DOLL? Elvis has one out. We need one of you, you are cream of the crop of real-estate.

RESPECTFULLY,

TERESA L. SKINNER

Mr. Sexton, you asked "What other ways can one set themselves apart from the others in this job market?" I think the biggest things I can do include bringing the right attitude, being a problem fixer instead of a problem finder, learning the expectations and then, exceeding them, and definitely following your advice - especially ongoing learning and skill development. One more thing, gaining hands on experience. If not through a paid job, then through volunteer opportunities.
