Too Much Oil

There’s too much oil in the world to justify the current high market prices. I’ve heard there are tankers all over the world that are loaded up to the gills with oil. They have so much oil they don’t know what to do with it. It’s ridiculous what’s going on with OPEC and all of that.

I blame the major oil producing countries for the current recession and I think the large oil companies are doing a major number on everyone.  The price of oil has dropped recently, but it should drop a lot more. The price of oil should be no more than $50 or $60 a barrel or perhaps even lower.

There are a lot of problems with the world’s economy, but oil is what is killing it. I think it’s time people became aware of what’s going on. It’s affecting all of us and in ways that aren’t great. Heating costs will eat away at everyone’s pockets this winter and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This situation could and should have been avoided. I think it’s time we all started paying attention to what is really going on.

I couldn't agree more; however I feel so frustrated as to what I, an "average" citizen can do. I live right at the base of the Altamont Pass in the East Bay Area of California and have watched over the past three years, as a forest of windmills has been constructed over these golden hills. I don't really have an understanding as to the science of how these things produce electricity, how it is stored and then where it goes and where it's used; I don't know how many windmills are ultimately going to be needed to produce enough to offset the need for oil; I'm saddened at the ugliness of the hills now and the loss of thousands of birds of prey (varieties of hawks). I'm wondering if it won't be people who have very real financial influence to create changes in oil politics...because I do think it's politics that have caused our current high prices in the U.S. I live in a part of California that requires the use of a car in order to go shopping and to visit my family...and various members of our family, spread over a 100-square mile area...cannot affored the gas to visit right now. It is a complex problem.

We agree that OPEC controled the price...and there are more options to look into. To be tough in business you need to sell other usable fuel and energy products. America lost hope. And it became too political ; which gave OPEC the buying power. Regain that power as collective units. In other viable solutions.

We won the battles, but lost the war in economic Trade.

Mr Trump,

Oil prices are high due to a few factors:

1) Political influence
2) The cost of searching and finding new oil ballons in the ground (its like gambling in the casino)
3) The huge dependence of the worlds economy on oil prices
4) The attitude of oil companies worldwide

These can be reduced by reducing the dependance on oil within the economy. This would mean finding alternate fuel to replace oil.

I agree with the price being way too high. Wind power is effiecient and the impact it leaves on the earth is minimal compared to coal or oil or even nuclear, but hydro and geothermal are really where our answers lie for america. Lets face it between the federal reserve causing our country to be in debt and greedy, and the powers that be in the middle east with the oil we are caught in the middle of this holy war they just brought it to our land, and have allowed our political system to get caught up in just enough of the greed to keep it all moving in their favor. No one really cares about us little guys that try and pay our bills and try and live within our means they want to control all of it and at the cost of human life.

Maybe Sara Palin with her insider information and fresh attitude towards politics can bring legitimate change. WE HAVE HOPE. We should do what President Lincoln did, green backs, pay off the national debt live within our means, lean down our government, give people the deeds to the land they live on. America isn't free that is obvious with the amount of debt each citizen carries, whether it be for over priced auto's or homes we are all indebt and to whom? The federal reserve is a small panel of ethnic men that run our monetary system, and they have allowed that to be based upon greed. This panel has infiltrated into all countries making all countries dependent upon their terms. We should be free from debt, not creating more, and now Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are going to be controlled by our government and most likely the federal reserve at whose cost? US the ones that pay the bulk of taxes each year......

Once we figure out that Greed is one of the seven deadly sins and walk away from it we are all doomed to repeat history.

Water or Oil???

Oil is the main base of most manufacturing of the things we use today...i don't know if i'm right...i just took the guess. If you think about all the things we use in the world today and how much oil is in those things, as well as how much oil is used for making it, that's alot of oil, hey!!

i must say, alot of things we have, need, or regularly use in this world revolves around oil. We'd lose those simple and sometimes unnecessary(yet, in someway necessary) things if we did not have oil.

Oil does provide the ability to have the things of today, but i would much rather be worried about water than oil personally. I know that water is what our body is mostly contained of and our body relies on water to live. Oil is something my body or life does not depends on, so i wonder why the world worries about oil, when water could be a bigger concern.

Those are my thoughts, what do you think???

I support deregulation of the oil industry. If there's that much money to be made in oil, then there must be some serious barriers to entry preventing new competitors from coming in. If the the oil is abundant and in the tankers, then somewhere in the production and marketing lines, there is a bottleneck... and I think that bottleneck is something called regulation. It's got a political solution. It's hurting my business and it has to be hurting your business. When you lower the cost of doing business, whether it is by lowering taxes or lowering the cost of materials, everyone prospers. Raising the costs, whether by increasing taxes, or increasing the cost of materials harms everyone. In this political season, I can't see why anyone would vote for the Democrats who are running on a socialist platform.

I believe political intervention is one of the reasons for such a large increase of the cost per barrell. I didn't see much fuss from this government when it happened. We seemed to take it lying down. It also happened the year of a major election. Coincidence? The price is dropping but I'm not sure if that is from the U.S political arm twisting of OPEC or due to the old supply/demand theory. Fewer people are driving decreasing demand. The one good thing this has done is made us aware that we need alternative sources of energy. Maybe it will pull us out of our complacency.

DEAR MR. TRUMP:
AMERICANS HAVE LET GO OF THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS; THEY ARE SO BUSY WORKING 2 TO 3 JOBS THAT THEY HATE TO PAY ATTENTION. THEY BELIEVED THAT WE THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE WAS STILL INTACT. WHEN IN FACT IT WENT OUT THE WINDOW LONG AGO. IM NOT GOING TO TO SAY MUCH HERE BECAUSE I DO INDEED HAVE SOME ACTION ANSWERS TO HELP AMERICANS TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR LIVES. BUT WITH MUCH LOVE FOR MY COUNTRY I WOULD SUGGEST TO START HERE.
1. REALIZE THAT ORGANIZED RELIGION CAN AND OFTEN IS BECOMMING CORRUPT. I KNOW PEOPLE ON THEIR DEATH BED PROUD TO DIE POOR. WHY? BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS, MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. NO IT DOESN'T, THAT;S NOT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS AT ALL. IT SAYS, THE LOVE .....THE LOVE ....THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. THE PROBLEM , THE PUBLIC DID NOT BOTHER TO READ IT FOR THEMSELVES. NOW GO BACK TO TOO MUCH OIL, MR. TRUMPS TOPIC, AND READ IT AGAIN, HE IS REALLY SAYING TOO MUCH GREED FROM THE WORLD CORPORATE POWERS THAT BE.
AND IF YOUR NOT AWARE AND YOUR NOT PAYING ATTENTION, OTHERWISE GOOD PEOPLE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE. THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A MILITARY SYSTEM TO KEEP PEACE NOT TO START WARS.
2. FIND OUT EVERYTHING YOU CAN ABOUT RALPH NADER. MAKE IT A FAMILY PROJECT. THIS MAN HAS DONE MORE FOR YOU THAN YOU MAY EVER KNOW. IF YOU THINK HE IS JUST A SPOILER, THAN YOU HAVE BEEN DUPED AGAIN. IF YOU THINK HE LOOKS LIKE A FOOL THAN CORPORATE AMERICA HAS SUCCEEDED IN TELLING YOU WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE, AND THEY ARE CONFIDENT THAT YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO CHECK IT FOR YOUR SELF.
3. LOOK PEOPLE TWO OF THE MOST POWERFUL MEN ARE AMONG US, DONALD TRUMP AND RALPH NADER, TAKE HEED, READ AND END CORPORATE GREED NOW. THESE TWO MEN CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO TAKE BACK CONTROL.
FROM TERESA LEE SKINNER AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE. lol. REMEMBER ALWAYS USE HUMOR FIRST WHEN POSSIBLE. PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER A FUNNY COMMERCIAL BEFORE THEY WILL REMEMBER A SEXY ONE, EVEN MEN. THAT'S RIGHT LADY's!

I wonder if this is just not a simple case of supply and demand. If there is an increase in demand ( China, India, etc) and the infrastructure cant move the oil fast enough If you check out the OPEC web site market indicators they have a world supply / demand graph where demand is greater than the supply. Also if you check out the freight rates they show an increase of more than 2.5 times for Gulf Europe, Gulf Japan, US Gulf. If these docs are accurate then maybe they are having a problem delivering to meet the demand. Also remember this is an opec document / web site and for may 08 only. it is interesting though.

If you click on the links in this article, it becomes clear what "is going on". It appears that we are the last generation on earth that will be able to power our cars with oil. In the next 30 years-maybe less as demand increases in India and China- we need to find ways to run our cars, power our planes, and produce adequate electricity. That knowledge has to be in place and have the infrastructure for wide-spread use- or only a few people will have cars, fly planes, and use electricity in their homes and businesses.

The idea that we can lower the prices of oil today if we only build up supply, is trading our present happiness for the future of our children. The faster we pump, the more we use, the sooner the day will come when only the few with the stockpiles and the money to buy will have these necessities of our modern life.

It appears that some of the 'big spending' that the Democrats want to promote, is to fund research and empower the infrastructure for the necessary shift to alternative power. One of the ways they are hoping to get that initiative going is to propose an "all of the above" energy policy. If Republicans wlll fund alternatives, then they will allow more off-shore drilling. It is a horrible trade-off. Florida has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country- if not the world. We are endangering a precious natural resource. But if it will persuade big business to start the shift that we need to preserve the future for our children, it may be a risk that is necessary. However, I would prefer if we lived in a world where people would work for our future without endangering our present environment.

We live n a time where if we do not start planning for the future- there won't be one. That is why we need to use all our God-given abilities to solve these problems in a single generation. We have what we need- we just have to start caring and start working for our future. We need to stop worrying about the price of gas today and start worrying about transportation and electricity for our children's generation.

The price is high because the greed is high

You may be interested in knowing that a friend of mine spoke with a British Petroleum executive about the price of oil. He was told that they are preparing for how to deal with the public when the price goes over $200 a barrel. He said the reasons included supply and demand, but a big part of the rise in price was due to the weakness of the dollar. Many people know that the U.S. has demanded that many oil producing nations to accept only U.S. dollars in oil transactions. Well, the Federal Reserve Bank running it's printing presses to make more dollars to pay our governments bills causes our inflation problems. Shouldn't we as citizens take some responsibility for being better watchdogs of our own government? Who gave the Federal Reserve Bank the right to debase our currency this way? Isn't there something in the Constitution about debasing the currency being considered high treason and punishable by death? Look it up.

Our founding fathers were very smart men.

It should be US$27 per barrel. I've red about the negotiation between bush and Arab King. It seemed a very hard issue. I feel that it's very hard to control than Monopoly. I pray that God will reduce the fuel price. I pray that Arab king and OPEC will at least think about the poor and vulnerable.

Why don't they rule the world by thinking about the poor and vulnerable?

Until a new source of viable and sustaining fuel is produced, we have no choice but to endure the changing prices. Without oil millions of people would starve to death. In the race to leave jobs in farming for easier, higher paying work, people established the need to consume more and more gasoline. Bigger engines, faster speeds, the desire to get from one location to another in less time, has contributed to our gluttony.

Blaming the large suppliers of oil and the politicians is not going to change our habits. We are a spoiled country that demands everything available and only complain when it affects our individual wallets.

Collectively we created the demand. Collectively we need to change our habits.

Oil prices are high because we are being told using oil is killing the environment. Using fear to control the population. Ten years ago we were told of the coming of the next ice age. Now it is global warming caused by the use of oil. Environmental groups currently have us by the short hairs. I'm all for the environment but let's get real. We have been aware for years of solar, wind, water power yet there is limited development on these. China is the largest air polluter in the world yet environmentalist point their fingers at US citizens attempting to humiliate us into conserving gas. Well, give me a car that runs on water and I'll drive it. In the mean time I need gasoline, heating oil, and natural gas to survive.

What we are discussing is supply and demand. As long as demand exceeds supply, the price will go up. Is supply being manipulated? Absolutely.

If we really want to see the prices come down, we need to decrease demand. That can be done by finding alternative oils to substitute in products, developing alternative fuels such as alcohol, soy based, etc., and other power sources such as solar, wind, water, and electric. Also, we need to use the technology to increase auto efficiency. I had a car that got 55 mi per gallon on the open road, and our auto companies are proud of 28 miles to the gallon? It appears to me, demand is being manipulated too.
