People who are around me will often comment that I ask a lot of questions--all the time. One reason is that I want to know as much as I can about everything, Another reason is sometimes I need to know how much or how little someone else knows. But mostly it’s because I’m curious.
A few years ago I received a letter from my kindergarten teacher. I can remember her, and she obviously remembered me. She told me in her letter that I asked more questions than any student she’d ever had in her entire career as a teacher, which spanned several decades. That’s what she remembered most about me. I wrote back to her that some things never change--that to this day, I still ask a lot of questions. But I explained that this trait has served me well, and I also thanked her for her patience way back when. I’m sure I wasn’t an easy student.
Here’s my point: Questions can cut to the core very quickly and can ultimately save everyone time. I often ask myself questions to keep things clear in my mind. One good one to ask yourself is “What am I pretending not to see?” That can bring blind spots to the surface quickly. Another question to ask yourself is “Are my actions in line with my goal plan?” That question can restore your focus and fast.
I hadn’t yet heard about Albert Einstein when I was in kindergarten, but in later years I discovered this quote from the man himself: The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. Little did I know I was following his advice. Take my advice as well--it works. Keep up the curiosity quotient and it will serve you well.

I would like to add one of my favorite quotes.. "ALWAYS question authority."
If we as a nation followed these simple guidelines perhaps we wouldn't be in a recession...

I was taught in 5th Grade by my teacher to always look at life as I did that day. She told me that growing old meant growing wise, she said that when I was old-- I'd surely still feel young.
" She was RIGHT! "
This used to happen to me a lot. Now I research the people I need to know in order to get useful information. It saves a lot of time, and my questions are answered to my satisfaction.
Ask questions, but know who you can trust. Experts don't always give honest answers. Every CEO in the world would say they deserve to take home $300M for the work they do. Are they really worth that much money? That all depends on who you ask.
So my question is- why don't you ask more questions here? Better yet, why don't you invite me to New York or Mar-a-lago to taste the Trump lifestyle and ask more questions?
I definitely convince that asking questions is very necessary and quite important to you.
Exactly, not only it is a habit about leadership, but also it is a key to handle the problem you faced.
Thank you for the advise, I think you can save a lot of time and energy, especially in business, when you ask questions.

When i read your quote "What am I pretending not to notice" it stirred me so much because I had gotten off track with my focus and i felt rejuvinated to dig back into my passion. I realized, I wasnt alone. Previously I felt like I wouldnt be understood. by anybody. Now I know there isnt a concept probably in the universe that you would not be able to unravel. I feel like I'm on another wave length then other people. Like they just dont get me or they don't want to because I'm driven by the truth and that scares the hell out of some people and can be intimidating. Anyway when I read your blog about staying focused it was llike a kick in the pants for me. I thank you for that.
God Bless the Jewish family you helped, and God Bless Donald Trump.

Recently I was told to beware that when you place a property on the market it no longer maintains any sense of privacy and your sense of security can be compromised. Your sentiments and emotions are open season if you leave the contents of your home in tact and realtors blog this property for sale on the open net.
Before placing a property on the market clearly remove all valuables and information from that property to ensure a safer and happier experience and not to enhance the sale of the property itself.
Apparently home insurance does not cover personal property while on the market and in most cases potential buyers have no obligation to pass any security clearance what so ever.
So do real estate agents gleen the same leverage when they enter your home to toy with your every emotion as they size up the contents of your proud home that to them may be simply a piece of trash destine for the web ?
How does a home owner avoid exploitation and maintain their worth and integrity while at the same time trying to sell their home, more over how does the renter protect themselves when the building goes up for sale.
And so as a student I ask do real estate gurus really care about home security or does one simply join the bottom of the food chain when a home needs to be sold ? If Leesa can cut Oracle down to the size of a pea imagine what she could do to you at your kitchen sink while its up for sale and destine for the web.
More over can a renter protest a compromise in security when their home goes to market.
Where can one find guarantees that mean money slashers won't devastate the memory of a home ? Have you ever returned to an old neighborhood where you use to live to find its gone to the dogs ? Who devalued this community, the realtor in a rush to sell or the community victimized by the politics of the day ? Are realtors politicians ? Should realtors be politicians ? Who campaigns for the next President ?
All to often property is rendered just a house void of all human recognition
Property quits being a home.
I can't accept this principal it creates an imbalance of power creating far too many moral issues beyond the scope of this page.

We now have to find a way to undo what this teacher did. Patience for a kid that has questions is really a joy. You are a blessing to that teacher especially because she knows how she was a small part of your success. I can just imagine how this kid will be a great success; his teacher is missing out on sharing his potential. Thank you for pointing out how important it is to ask questions.

At my firm we often often ask two-footed questions for double the dividends, and are amazed at the mind-bending results that follow both in facts and inspiration for growth. Thanks for the inspiration to keep asking in ways that keep us learning!
Well the British infused a great deal into the American economy today and its just sad very sad. I watched American tourists speak to a British bloak today and it was a crying joke. First the American had no idea the British just bailed out her stockmarket, second she was mad because she couldn't understand a word the British man was saying, third she was rude as hell to the British man, and fourth she was asking for directions that she rather get from me the Canadian ! Still the Brit maintained good manners.
Shot herself in the foot all by herself, bad manners never fail ? I wonder if the British realize how much the Americans hate to decypher their accent. No bones about it who liked Piers during last year's Apprentice ?
So I scratch my chin and wonder the whole lot can play with their money but at the end of the day they can't stand one another. I didn't find the transaction a very secure investment at all. Time will tell its the bad manners against the good manners now.
By contrast an American couple wanted to see the Canadian Polls today and followed me after work knowing I was about to vote. I told them it was pointless there was security and they would be stopped at the doors. Still they laughed and doubted our security. They couldn't cheat the security what fun.
Now here is funny an American asked me if the RCMP were real.
Absolute ignorance !
Curiosity is that not for our PRIVATE LIFE
and for our BREAK!

Asking questions has two main advantages. One - you get to paint the mental picture of who you are talking to. Even the way that someone answers can reveal things to you that you would not otherwise find out. Two - it is the only way to quickly connect with another person, whether it's for a personal or business purpose. Knowing which questions to ask is the other part of the story, and equally as important. I am also a curious person, and rarely have to force myself to ask questions, as it comes naturally.
On a psychological level, asking questions causes the person to talk about themselves which they would almost always enjoy. Most people don't enjoy listening. Which is certainly a bad thing.
Take Real Estate, for example. I can walk past any property in my local area and say with confidence what it is worth. That isn't just guesswork on my part - but the result of years of studying the local property market, property listings, auctions etc. The vast amount of knowledge I've gathered enables me to make that informed decision. Knowledge REALLY is power! Best wishes, David.
But the commentators are leaving some brilliant qoutations....
Love this blog....very informative...and I love that people are sharing and staying true to the concept of...

To Mr. Trump
Questions bring knowledge. The more knowledge you have on an issue, the better decisions you can make on that issue. I think questions enable you to read into things more clearly depending on whether the answer was from truth or a lie. This is where trust comes into the question and the questions become more important. I believe that questions can bring more self assurance on what your decision will be.
Here is something to think about....A man who THINKS before he speaks will probably QUESTION before answering.... :o)
What do you think???

Your article on "rudeness" is the same as Defense Logistic Agency Defense Depot Joaquin Center Bin Section. Here the Supervisor revels in churning and spying with two or more Arburtration Hearings. He said he wanted his "Enforcer" Back as a token black man to intimidate the civil servants. Yes it is alive and well and routinely practiced in federal civil service. Why do you think two-thirds of all federal cases involving those serving in Iraq are Federal Civil Service Cases and most of the time the supervisor is not even a veteran.
Besides rudeness, in my endeavor to work with native Americans to put a "sailability" founded by Chris Mitchel (www.accessdinghy.org/sailability) is communication. Native Americans are distrustfull of Caucasian because of the perennial Past Practice which dose not pertain to the Indian Gaming Commission who are not even citizens of this country.
Maybe, you have a suggestion to get around the Lusieno`-Illiam-Ylacky-Pomos-Cherokees into doing something positive.

I talk to many people internationally - and I find that America is still the most respected Country on earth. Who are you talking to that says they do not respect America ? There are no intelligent people in the world that do not respect America for what we have done and what we are doing now in the world. Donald -If you talk to freaks - your get freak responses - go talk to others outside the realestate industry- not just freaks, OK ?.
Why in the world do you keep verbally abusing the President of the United States ?
You are a traitorous ass hole. Rich, but still an ****.
You are a traitor to demean the leadership of the USA. We do the best we can in any generation . You - yourself- would be a total failure as a leader of the free world. All you can do is attack and critizize. Life is not a TV show. You offend me and millions of Americans on your constant abusive ignorant attacks on the President of the USA.
America and the president are respected throughout the world - by people that can comprehend the world situation and history. Only an imbicile or a traitor would make such outrageous statements abourt President George W. Bush as you continue to make. You ****.
If you think that George W. Bush made mistakes - just wait to see the mistakes the Barack Hussein Obama makes. Or for that matter - the mistakes you would made if you were President of the USA.
You made your fortune on quantifiable realestate and TV simple decisions. You would never be successful on the world stage of subjective judgements of international implications .
I request that you apologize to President Bush for your hateful, jealous comments about his ability and decisions. Please help America , and not try to destroy it with your big mouth. Stick to Rosie - she is not the leader of the free world.
Yes, Bush should not have invaded Iraq so New York City and you could have been incinerated by radical Muslims and the current financial crises caused by realestate executives like you - could have been avoided.
Stop in and visit me in Cincinnati - if you have the guts to explain your traitorous comments .

I would like to explain my confusion in this years election concernig, "Asking Questions"
Many have been asked yet none of them answered. We have persued a honest aproach to a election system that has worked for 200 years, yet this year not one question was answered.
I have read many of your columns and I have agreed with much of what you say and think. Yet I am from a whole different class (middle). One question that weighs on my mind each and everyday while I watch my 401K disapear and our government become more involved in the banking system.
Question: Who bailed out all the Textile workers who lost their jobs and their pensions after giving 20-30-40 years to one company with pride and loyalty?
No One
These are the people who over the past 10 years have lost their homes, retirement and somtimes families. These are the people who were proud of what they did for a living and worked hard everyday and new nothing was wrong until they showed up to work and the door would not open.
These are the people working in fast food restraunts anxiously awaiting 65 so they can draw Social Security yet fearing it will not exist when they reach this point. These are the 70 plus who still work odd jobs or at Wendys because SS does not pay enough to cover their utilities and medical cost.
These are the people who are strong and have never given in to taking anything from the government that they have not worked for.
We are a Textile family and we have witnessed this so many times. We are one of the lucky ones, we still have a job. My husbands has alot of pride in what he does and he enjoys his work. God has blessed us.
Question: The excecutives running AIG and all the other banks and buisnesses that are getting bailed out, Do you honestly think they care about the little man whos industry built this country? Do you think Nancy Pelosi, Hary Reid or Barack Obama is truly going to change anything?
NO, and I am scared.
I just wanted to point out not all questions lead to learning. Some are intended to interfere with it. I am involved with troubled youth, and often encounter teens who interrupt and ask questions that they do not want answers to - just to redirect and control a conversation or to stall activity. I have also observed people who go into endless loops when they start asking quesitons such as "What if's"
Don't get me wrong, a good "What if...?" opens up possibilities, but it can also be absolute fantasy and totally irelevant to the issue at hand. I do agree well-timed and well-directed questions can simplify and define information.
In marketing I learned one of the key questions to ask yourself - What do you value? This is key because the answer influences every single thing you do. Your values are what motivate your investments of both time and money. Do you value friends, family, respect, intelligence and learning, beauty, pleasure, money, material things, work ethic, freedom, laughter, or something else. If you aren't sure, ask yourself what brings value or meaning to your life. Once you identify these things, rank them in order of importance. These are the things that motivate you.
This also works in motivating other people. Observe what they value, and show them how they can gain it by doing what you need, or buying what you want to sell, and you will usually get cooperation.
Mr. Trump, in your pursuit of information, have you considered asking a few pointed questions of your participants such as "What do you like most/least?" Can this be improved? How? What other training, professionals, etc. would you like offered?
