Laid Off? Try Cosmetic Surgery

With today’s economy, unfortunately more and more people are finding themselves without jobs. Different people, of course, handle the situation in different ways. Some jump headfirst back into the job hunt, polishing their resumes and interviewing skills. Others take some time off to regroup and maybe consider a career change. But there’s a newer, growing trend. Some people are turning toward plastic surgery.

Apparently, a lot of people figure that they need an edge in order to appeal to prospective employers so they go under the knife or at least settle for some Botox. They think that no matter how experienced or talented they might be, first impressions mean a lot. And if you don’t look good - and oftentimes, that means looking young - that can thoroughly affect how other people perceive you.

There have been all sorts of studies that have found that attractive people tend to earn more money and are promoted more than their less attractive peers. But I’m not sure that that’s a good enough reason to get a nose job or liposuction.

Still, people are doing it. A survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery found that two-thirds of surgeons said they'd treated patients seeking to remain competitive in the workplace last year.

I guess if it’s something you want to do, then by all means, do it. But I think a new nose or less wrinkly eyes aren’t going to get you a good job. It’s all about your track record and what you can do. Not how you look. I’d suggest working on your resume, not your face.

This time you made me laugh. Thank you.
I agree that working on your resume or making a business plan is key to finding your way through difficult times. Your appearance is important. Courage comes from within. If you think botox will help, and you know the risks and expense involved and you trust the skills of the person doing the procedure, go for it!
I prefer natural, organic solutions to beauty and health. Exercise, a moderate diet and laughing often seems to work better for me.
Having faith in your ability to overcome difficulty will give you strength when you need it. And if you no longer have the strength, then a peaceful solution is a blessing.
Most people tend to find their inner strength.

I know a woman who once earned a 6 figure income in management for a small company. When that company went under, she never regained her foothold. Twenty years later, she was devastated when her nurses' aide job came to an end. I asked her why she didn't try to get back in the business world. She told me that her resume was great. She got lots of calls and telephone interviews. But when it came down to a face-to-face interview, they took one look and ended the interview very quickly. She had great style- always had a nose for clothes- so it wasn't her dress. I told her that if I were her, I'd get a good anti-aging cream. At first, she thought that she couldn't afford it. But I pointed out that if $25 was going to get her a better job, then she could not afford not to invest in it. I don't know if she followed my advice or not, but she told my Mom to thank me- and she is starting to get jobs in business again. I don't know if surgery is necessary- but do know that if it isn't your resume, or your qualifications, or your attire- and if they take one look and say no thanks- then that is an indication that there is something else wrong with your appearance.

As an Artist, i speak with many people from different cultures. They all have an opinion. Here is a gem...
"Real beauty is not flashy or conspicuous, it is the essential form which cannot be improved by further modification."

A Friend

You are beautiful.

What did you start?
I tell people to read Trump Blog. They do.
Here is a comment I want to pass on to you.

"You don't have to be pretty, to be the Best.
You don't have to be pretty, to be different than the rest.
What you contribute when you bear your Soul,
Is what makes others a Better Whole."

Botox or cosmetic surgery cannot change ugliness within.
A job loss is far better than giving up true beauty that comes from within.
I say this, as a Friend."

Please, don't quit. A new World can be yet discovered.
Christopher Columbus, didn't quit the journey.
He helped make America a new place on an old map.

Cosmetic Surgery?
Why would an ugly duckling have such need?
I didn't rely upon my wrinkles, or grey hairs to get to where I am.
Determination, is a far better cure for job loss.
This was the remedy that cured "The Blues."

There's more. .. But,
I have to get busy making a difference.
Thanks for a great subject.

It's important to think eternal- after all - all of life is a second next to eternity.
It is also important to have a great job and be able to feed your family comfortably.
If you are young and beautiful- or even old and beautiful- the world is full of opportunities and possibilities.
But I believe that a woman with a face full of wrinkles, who is overweight, or who has dingy gray or white hair will miss out on jobs for which she would be the perfect candidate.
I think that is a terrible injustice and bad business practice. It is also what happens.
This is more true for women than men. Men with age show experience. Women are thought to be letting themselves go.
I also find that improving your appearance in any way gives you more confidence and self-assurance.
That will go a long way to getting a better job.
Do you need plastic surgery? Probably not- there are a lot of products out there that will do a great job of taking the years off your face. Too much plastic surgery shows. I would NEVER do plastic surgery- couldn't ever bring myself to pierce my ears. I also prefer the most natural products that will do the best job. But I can understand a woman's need to make a drastic improvement in her appearance when job-hunting. Do whatever needs to be done- and get back out there in the success lane!
Also- I find that Trump University's Get That Job audio course really helps focus and freshen your resume- so go out and Get That Job!

I couldn't agree more. I have worked with a gal that dressed fancy, wore high heels, and always behaved as if she couldn't break a nail.

The key is she didn't work hard so as not to break her nails or muss her hair. She always needed her beauty sleep lest she arrive looking ill. I have seen her with no sleep and she looked worse than I without sleep. The truth did surface when she disappeared for a week to attend medical issues.

I have seen her presume a two hour lunch on our busiest day of the season to have a five minute hair cut, and my stomach churned.

She hurt the work ethics of the team each time she primped and preened at the cost of others.

I rather a gruff hard working woman who knows her stuff than someone who squanders money and time at the expense of the company.

One thing I haven't figured out is that customers avoid her esthetics and prefer to consult with me first who is plan, clean, and simple.

Laughably as much time and money as it takes to dress as does she, I have invested in the company's product while she says its too expensive. Perhaps this is the reason customers are drawn to me. Like me they want to know more about the product and not the chin tucks.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to dress like a millionaire, work less to preserve the crease in my clothing line, and eat fancy meals to feel warm and fuzzy. But lets face it, if I do that the rest of the team suffers.

Mr. Trump, you are a self-professed lover of beauty. Tell the truth, which would you hire more readily, an "ugly" apprentice (female) with a stellar resume, or beautiful/hot apprentice with a less than perfect resume? By Marion TD Lewis, Esq.

Whenever I hear statistics about increases and trends, I want to know with what are they being compared? A year ago, I heard that plastic surgery on teens was also increasing. I expect plastic surgery across the board is increasing. The types of procedures are likely expanding, and the technology is probably improving.

Regarding your comments, I am not sure the employment issue is based on looks as much as age. Many companies won't retain or hire older employees to avoid costly insurance and retirement packages. Younger employees are generally believed to have fewer medical issues and risks such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. Also, a younger employee can provide more years of employment.

This isn't only directed at women. Four years ago, my husband, who was 57 was told he wasn't what they were looking for when he applied to be a salesman for farm implements (having been a farmer, a businessman, a retail sales manager). He was told they were really looking for someone twenty to midthirties who would be around for several years. Most companies are not as outspoken in their practice of age discrimination, but it still exists whether it is acknowledged or not.

From another angle, being unemployed can be a real blow to the self-esteem. Improving your looks could make you feel better about yourself. Increasing your self-confidence should increase your marketability.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, ugly people can be great employees and exceptional at what they do. However, I think it has to be said.... There are people out there who just don't seem to understand the importance of appearance. I am not saying you should get plastic surgery - although, I probably would, if I could. I have years of experience in interviewing. You would be amazed at the amount of people interviewing for a professional position in dirty, wrinkled clothes, uncombed hair (no offense Donald), no makeup, etc. They present an incredible resume. Now, this puts an interviewer in quite the delima. The candidate is completely qualified, but do I want him/her to represent my company? The lack of concern in one's own appearance can mean many other underlying social and personal issues. I am not an overly attractive person. I have learned to present myself in a way, that brings out my best. I expect employees to present their best to me and my clients. So, before you think you did not get the position, because of the way you look....have you presented yourself in the same way you would a project or piece of work you have completed?

Diet and exercise don't always do the trick. No matter how many boring crunches, squats, and sit ups you do, fat still collects on your hips, thighs, and abdomen, including other areas.
