A New Year's Observation

It takes all kinds. That’s something we’ve noticed in the past year in the news, with Bernard Madoff topping it off.  We have a saying in construction when the structure of a building is completed--a ‘topping off party’ to signify the top floor has been put in place. Somehow, the past year got its own topping off party but not in the best sense.

My opinion is that we should all try to be grateful. There’s a lot to be thankful for and being positive is certainly more productive than being negative. But I have to say I got another surprise recently, and it has to do with gratefulness. Rebecca Jarvis was on my show, The Apprentice, which is what first brought her to public recognition. On her recent bio, which airs on CNBC, she had a lot of credits, but one was missing: her appearance on The Apprentice. Her lack of acknowledgment truly surprised me, as her interview with CNBC was expedited and successful due to her exposure on my show.

Many other talented people have appeared on The Apprentice and most of them have had the intelligence and class to recognize what the show has meant in their lives and careers. I wrote a letter to Rebecca and mentioned how quickly we forget.

I may have had the goods in place for a reality show, but to this day I remain thankful that Mark Burnett approached me with his idea and that NBC was supportive in what, at the time, was a risk. There’s never been a successful business show on television before. Rebecca was part of that yet she refused to even give it a mention.

Being appreciative isn’t that hard, and very rarely is anything done alone. I think a good New Year’s resolution is to find reasons to be grateful--and sometimes they’re not that hard to find.

Donald, a leader realizes that success comes from the help of others and a leader is proud to recognize everyone who helped towards success. You also talked about vision is the starting point for success; and Leadership is The Foundation of long lasting success. Dan Sullivan stresses: Leadership providing Direction, Relationship providing Confidence and Creativity providing Capability! That very much says it all. Leadership as The Foundation will bread Leadership throughout any Organization. I like to use a house as a symbol for an organization. I believe that an organization, just like a house, needs a strong foundation on solid ground for it to bear the heavy load of success. Any successful organization could place The Executive Team, as a symbol of strength, on the bottom of its organizational chart and communicate throughout the entire organization:
"The Executive Leadership Foundation is our Organization’s Vision, Strategy, Communication, Information, and Culture Center."
The Ground Floor is the Hands on Management, managing all organizational assets for a smooth running and harmonious operation towards profitability and success through servicing and training of "Unique Ability Teams" at every work station with responsibilities at the lowest point of competency. Success is being built by following a vision, implementing many details and having leadership as its foundation.

Mr. Trump, I couldn't agree more. I'm a college student, and this past semester was the roughest I've ever had. Unfortunately, it wasn't because I was struggling in my classes; it was because someone I thought was a friend raped me, literally. Dealing with the aftermath was, and still is, very difficult, but I couldn't be more grateful for the support I'm getting from my friends and teachers as well as from all the wonderful people who are helping me get through the legal system to put him behind bars. Many people have helped me put my life back together, and I am grateful for all of them. I'm also grateful for having music in my life, listening to it has helped me stay calm and sane and composing it has helped me deal with what happened. Another thing I clung to was your admonishment to never give up. It helped me find the courage to get through the scariest moments. Thank you.

I agree don, I think there is alot to be thankful for, and you are right some people aren't appreciative at all and then there are those few that you do the slightest thing for them and they feel like you went out of the world for them. I watched you show during the past few years and i really liked it. i also watch Extreme Home Makeover every week, and i think if 90% of the population would watch that show then they would see just how bad some people really have it, and most of the families they help on that show are pillars in their community. Example was last sunday they had a correction office who has successfully been able to rehabiliate the people he comes into contact with, his life was all about this career and making sure when the people were released they would be able to be a good citizen, yet he had a family of seven at home living in a 1000 square foot home with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. I live in a 3 bedroom mobile home, have 2 bathrooms, i have my wife, a dog, a cat, and twin boys, and i thought we needed more room and thought we were in bad shape until i saw that. It made me realize that I didn't have it so bad. A big part of our population take the small things for granted, I am sure Rebecca Jarvis wasn't and isn't thinking about yesterday or that the apprentice show made her what she is today, she is just thinking about today, and had no appreciation for what your show did for here.

You make it sound as if her APPEARANCE ON YOUR SHOW DIDN'T MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD.

The best way to hear "Thank You" often is to do a lot of things that make people want to sincerely
say it. Expectations usually are an open door to disappointment. If you do something nice for someone, "just do it!"

How many Thank You notes have you sent out this week? I'm sure there's a lot of people who do things to help you. Did you put a Thank You message on MSNBC?

Be sweet Donald, and the bees will come to you. Because she overlooked your sensitive nature let me say it for her, "Thank You Donald for helping so many people."

I appreciate what you do.

Mr. Trump you are right...

She was a sore loser. Dr. Randal Pinkett was the right choice. Randal does practice his faith on his website...that is a wonderful way to inspire. It shows character. And Rebecca went with her accomplishments...with CNBC and her top business financial mergers. She forgot Mr. Trump in her profile. To at least acknowledge and thank him. That is the differnce. Randal won and she was slighted.

How would she fit in the Trump Orgainzation?

Maybe it got edited out without her knowledge?
Maybe she only remembers people on her Facebook friend list?

I am again amazingly surprised how warm and kind also the great businessman´s heart could be. It is a great honour to be the member in the Trump University as we have the leader who thinks also the other things than money that life has to offer : love and observing other people and we could be greatful about many things in our lives nowadays. I think too that we could say thank you with embraces much more often than we do now. It could make your day happier and you can feel that there is someone who cares about you. It be valid in the business world too, forexample at the beginning of the meeting when we embrace with smilings each others so it could be more comfortable and relaxed to discuss about heavy things.

She didn't forget to acknowledge Mr. Trump. She wants evryone to think she got where she is today without any help from anyone.
If she was of good character and good intellegence she would have paid tribute to those who deserve it. One day the lack of courtesy will com back and bite her very hard in the ass. Mr. Trump would not have gotten to where he is if he failed to acknowledge the people that helped him get to where he is today.

Now that's just downright disrespectfull. Now I don't know much about her as a person or your relationship to her. But by the sound of it I would probably not settle until I had been given an excuse for her ignorancy, perhaps even a public excuse since it's a public matter. Bah.

I mean not only did she ignore/forget about you and how you helped her. Your show made her for christ sakes, at least helped her significantly.

It's a great show by the way, love the boardroom bits.

PROUD OR HUMBLE

To Mr. Trump

I looked at Rebecca jarvis' bio and noticed how many skills and accomplishments she has made in her life. Alot of these skills are related to what she does now.

A humble man does not need to be noticed for his good deeds but rather just takes joy in seeing and knowing the positive outcome. Although Rebecca did not mention "The Apprentice",which helped her get noticed for her abilities, I believe she is probably grateful. My thought is that she may have wanted people to see more of her and look beyond what is already known of her from "The Apprentice".

If rebecca has not given you a personal thank-you at any time since "The Apprentice", then i would assume she is ungrateful.

If Rebecca has given you thanks at some time, then do as a humble man would do and be happy for her.

That was my thoughts. What do you think????

My long lost 0.5 Brother, who is much smarter and wiser than I am, and about your age I'd say Mr. Trump, (he's 60), said to me best recently in a personal email. He said: "Never help an idiot! They don't appreciate it." And I would like to add that they don't thank you, and further that most of the time, they don't even KNOW [cognitively] that you actually helped them. They're just bouncing along, one of the herd of masses of humanity. And most are happier not knowing that they CAN BE individuals too. It's just easier to pay the people on television to do their thinking for them. Lazy Thinkers I call them, Mr. Trump. There's big and heavy lazy, then there's people just too plain lazy to do their own thinking! Heck, most of them probably "think" that's what the TV is for!!!!! Ha! Just don't help any one like that any more Mr. Donald.

I guess this provides a lesson for each of us. Thank you, Mr. Trump, for the opportunity to learn and share, and thank you each of you bloggers for adding to the interesting reading. A special note regarding the message posted by musicangel on 01/08/2009 3:39 PM I am sorry to hear of your ordeal, but glad you have found support and strength. I am very interested in your music, and I am sure it will help heal others if they can only hear it. Are you going to post it on U-tube or making any plans to put it out?

Rachel Sutton,

Thanks for your support. The songs are still works-in-progress. They will be finished later this semester, and I will perform them in a student recital then. I'm consulting with my teachers on how to do/notate certain techniques used in them. As far a putting one or both of them on YouTube, I have not yet made plans on that. I'm afraid I do not yet own a digital camcorder, webcam, or any other means to make a video that can be posted to YouTube.

I came from a background not much different from a ghetto, but a Canadian version we call logging communities. Opportunities are few and far between. With the help of an elderly Janitor, I was able to get away from typical "Minimum Wage" work, and create a thriving Janitorial business that sustained my family for 20 years. My employees earned about double the average town wage, and were part of the secret of my success, happy to earn more meant they were happy to do a better more thorough job.
After scraping enough savings together, I put myself through Real Estate Training and related courses, and am now earning an annual income I never dreamed of. With the recent slow down of activity in the market, I finally got the TIME break I needed to go back to the logging town where I first got my start, and THANK the man who truly harnessed my potential, and let me benefit from it. He is on his death bed, after a series of strokes etc., BUT was so glad I made the effort. Of course I had thanked him for his help in the past, but, with the special trip, and his knowing I had made a name for myself -- this was special to me and especially to him.
Whether it is a janitor, or Donald Trump who makes it possible to get our 'Big Break' - regardless of all our own attributes-- Please take time to give a meaningful "thank-you" to that person. Peter in Victoria

Mr. Trump,

Agree. I am reading your books! You said Rebecca’s loyalty impressed you. You even went on to say that she is doing a great job at CNBC!

Thank you for inspiring me and enabling me to see the world in a new way!

I to want to express my support for you musicangel in your struggle.

I wish you all the best.

And I agree, music is something great.

And that's an incredible story member1907092. Also what you say is right. I too owe a great deal to Donald Trump because I have learned A LOT from him, just by watching him on youtube and learning from his books. When I had gone through a lot of experiences it was like I had the puzzle pieces, but they were scattered all over the place. And Donald Trump, among others, helped me to put them in place. Pretty cool.

THANK YOU DONALD TRUMP

Regarding The Apprentice... I would like to have seen it where they know specifically what Job they are competing for (from the beginning). Then have most of the competitions closely related to that actual job. Another good spin-off would be a show with the cameras following you on the job with a real apprentice.

That show has had a big impact on society. Mainly from all the people on it, and what they have gone on to do. Of course they all had talent and likely aspirations to be on television as well. In this case the parts are greater than the whole. So I'm going to take Rebecca's side for a second, because it is very difficult to get a legitimate job in television after doing a reality show (which had nothing to do with her broadcasting abilities). You sort of make it sound like all of her future accomplishments are tied to having been on The Apprentice. When it likely has made getting a good gig twice as hard.

It's kinda like say Gary Coleman trying to break free from being know as "Arnold" for the rest of his life. Maybe I could of chose a better example. Before I go off on a scattered thought rant, I'll just get to the point- You got to look at things from a different perspective sometimes. Instead of feeling dissed and scolding Rebecca, it would of been better to congratulate her on all her success.

And in closing I would like to wish you and all your family a very successful and prosperous 2009!

Mr. Trump--

You don't need validity... you're the "DONALD." Expect nothing of no one, but give all you can to many. Only God keeps records of what we truly expect of ourselves and others.

Mr. Trump, i don't believe in defeat philosophy to overcome obstacles and cultivate a positive idea pattern deeply in consciousness.

Hello,
Not sure how the format of the CBS bio show is, but if it's a CV then she might be right to leave the Apprentice out. You said it yourself: "This is a 13-14-15 weeks job interview.." Because it was an unsuccessful interview, why put it on the CV? Imagine every person put all their interviews on their CV - now that would be funny.
