Why I Selected Dennis Rodman for The Celebrity Apprentice

Blog ImageDennis has a personality that matches the diversity of his credentials. He’s a little bit crazy, but he’s also very smart, and that’s a good mix.

Dennis Rodman, www.drodman.com, is as flamboyant as he was a great basketball star. Over 14 years of NBA play Dennis amassed one of the most enviable basketball records ever. He is a five-time NBA Champion, seven-time All-Defensive First Team pick and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Dennis brought amazing energy to the game and equally thrilled fans with his play and his ever-changing hair color, his tattoos and his body piercings.

During his career, Dennis played for five NBA teams, the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. Teammates and opponents called him “Dennis the Menace” and “The Worm” because of his aggressive defense and rebounding abilities. Rodman also led the NBA in rebounds per game for an incredible record seven consecutive years.

Dennis is a part-time professional wrestler and a businessman, a restaurateur. He had his own TV show "The Rodman World Tour" and had lead roles in the action films "Simon Sez" and "Double Team" alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. In 2005 Dennis won the $222,000 main prize on "The Celebrity Mole." He also participated in the U.K. "Celebrity Big Brother" and hosted "Geek to Freak" on Mark Cuban’s HDNet.

Dennis plays The Celebrity Apprentice to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of New Orleans, www.casaneworleans.org. CASA trains citizens to stand up for abused and neglected children and to advocate for the best interest of foster children who are under the jurisdiction of Orleans Parish Juvenile Court.

We loved the Chicago Bulls! Boy, did Dennis Rodman make a difference... he was one of the many talented stars on that team...and they made a big difference.

Dennis is smart, and very gifted. He might need a coach to pull him and lead him. He needs a little push and lean. He would be a great leader...but his style contridicts him. And then you lost the task.

He will be famous for who he is....

And he has a great charity....hope he does well on the show.

I've long believed underneath all the flash, was an incredibly smart man. Smart enough to play the public and be "in" on the joke. I hope he goes all te way!

I was a volunteer for Children in Placement in Connecticut . They assist families with children that need outside protection from harmful situations that can have a damaging effect on innocent lives.

If Dennis Rodman feels a need to be "different" from the status quo to get the attention to help himself and others achieve their dreams, then being different is "a good thing."

Perhaps the world can benefit from people like Dennis who take a stand and win because they never quit. Some fashionistas may even be inspired by his "unique" clothing and accessories.

Wherever he goes and whatever he does, I hope people will accept him for who he is. After the show is over, you still need friends. So far, he doesn't seem to be too friendly to his fans. He sat in the donut truck and was unwilling to greet people on the street. Looking at him, it would be hard to believe that he is "shy."

Being a real celebrity means being able to go the distance. I'll be watching to see what he does when he's off the court that makes a lasting impression.

I Wish him the Best!

I think Dennis has a lot of potential. He has shown this in the past. The problem I see while watching the show, is all the internal flaws that interferes with his performance. He is very stubborn, but deeper inside, I think he needs the help and support not only of his fans but also of his team. Hey!, but don't forget this is not a rehab show, this the Apprentice for God Sake. So Dennis, cut the crap and get to work with your team.

As a new viewer of the show, I am astounded that a business leader such as yourself (Donald Trump) would keep Dennis Rodman. I am currently working on my Master's degree and one of my classes is Conflict Management. I know that as a supervisor, if anyone came to work for me under the influence or threatened bodily harm to another person, that individual would be at the very least suspended, but combined with their work history (in Dennis' case, what work?), they would be fired.

I understand it is about the ratings and the production, but certainly there were better selections than Rodman. He may have had the skills on the b-ball court, but he talks as if he was the greatest. He wasn't. I sincerely hope he is fired -- seeing as how he obviously wants off the show. Too bad the organization he chose to represent is the real loser -- they must be so embarassed to have him as their ambassador.

I don't think Dennis Rodman is a good example for our young people. He couldn't get a job collecting shopping carts in Walmarts parking lot. One of the things people are told when seeking employment is to loose the nose, lip, and eyebrow rings, and cover the tatoos. It's fortunate for him that he made a huge amount of money playing basketball, and the fame he aquired from that.

I honestly can't stand looking at him. I will not watch your show again.

Selecting Dennis wasn’t a mistake; it was an intentional move to spice things up for the show. As in business, there is a rather extensive interview process involved with casting a prime time television show. Rodman isn’t sharp enough to trick anyone into thinking that he isn’t operating at a 10th grade level. Mr. Trump was obviously very thoughtful in his choosing the contestants; this isn’t about discovering a real business genius… Come on people! Joan Rivers? Clint Black? Or that Karadshian girl… Let’s not overlook the operative word here; "Celebrity"…. It’s not business or entrepreneur.

Could anyone imagine Mr. Trump having any of these individuals as a business apprentice? I wouldn’t dream of allowing any of these people near my business or my clients other than Jesse James – and not because I think he’s a cool dude; he exhibits a special ability to clearly understand a situation and take action.

And as far as role models are concerned… where in the world does anyone get the notion that because you’re on television or play sports, you are a role model? If there were a book; the dumbest assumptions in the world, I’m sure this would be in the top 100. Dennis Rodman played basketball; he wasn’t a priest or a humanitarian, or a role model.

Dear Mr Trump, First I want to say I have watched every Apprentice and love your show. It is just the most wonderful thing on TV. I only have one television in my home and no cable so I do not watch much, but your show is one of the 3 I watch and I absolutely love it. You have done it.

After seeing this weeks show I had to take the time to make a post to your blog. This week your show gave it all. It touched my heart and you said all the right things.

Your show that is entertaining, it makes you think, its inspiring and it gives people ideas and opens them up to ways of making a living and opportunities they may have never known existed. Your show has made me laugh, get angry and this week it made me cry. I think you are one of the most innovative, free thinking creative business men in the world. You give off such a positive energy. Your good work ethics show through and people will notice and I know take away something positive from you and your show. It shows that with ambition,a good idea, hard work, persistence and perseverance you can be successful. Doing something you love.

Not only this but after watching your children it is clear you are a good Dad as well and it is obvious your kids are not only smart they are sensitive and have hearts. Children that would make any parent proud.

I am an entrepreneur in the adult entertainment business. I produce videos. I started my company 9 years ago with 7000 dollars. A small website and an online theater before they were so popular, after the first 4 years I was able to land a distributor for my line and now I am distributed worldwide and have customers all over the globe. I am not a millionaire but I am happy and my business is still doing ok in this recession. I have won 3 AVN Adult Video News Awards and am well known in my genre.

I am a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology. I have an associates degree in buying and merchandising and a degree in fashion design. Along with running my production business I am currently designing a line of women designers shoes. I am back in FIT learning the accessories business with hopes in getting some of that grant money Obama is giving out. It is time we bring back the made in the US label and what better way than a line of high end designer shoes. I want to manufacture the line here in the US in a 100% green manufacturing plant.

Watching your show give me the inspiration to look into other business ventures and I also bought my first property using the no money down theory. Thank you Mr Trump. Your a very important person.

With sorrow, I watched Dennis get fired this evening. Unfortunately, Dennis wasn't in his element , basketball, and didn't shine consistently, and I emphasize the word "consistently". But I want Mr. Trump and his staff, the Celebraty Apprentice cast, and viewers to know that Dennis does shine outside his home turf on the court. During Super Bowl XLIII week in Tampa, FL, Dennis generously dontated his time and autographed basketballs to an organization I founded in Dec '08 called Earth Buddies of America. Dennis was more than outstanding with the Earth Buddies children; that's right, children from 1st through 5th grade. He was polite, accomodating, generous, and silly in a conservative way that the children and their parents enjoyed, and he lit up their eyes and lives by taking the time to support our newly formed organization. I actually used the word "paternal" to describe Dennis' interaction with the children following their interaction. I have multiple sclerosis and unfortunately lost my footing, and started to fall. Dennis rushed to catch me, even though others were closer, and was truly concerned and compassionate with my well being. He does shine and brought a bright light and recognition to Earth Buddies of America. Please visit our website for photos of Dennis and the children @ www.EarthBuddies.org (Please note the org in the address). Sincerely, Tammy Correa, President and Founder, Earth Buddies of America.

My comment has nothing to do with "why Dennis was selected for Celebrity Apprentice."
Instead, I think it was awful to make personal attacks about his drinking on national tv. I think the cast should have kept it light and just said he was not a good leader when he walked out on the team. Dennis had failed his team that was enough of a platform to get him fired any other reasons were mean spirited.

Very surprised with Mr. Trump. I thought he was a very wise man a good judge of character and ability. If Dennis Rodman had any ability or smarts -- this was not see on the Celebrity Apprentice. Mr. Rodman did not want to be there from the very first show. He could not take direction nor could he lead -- what is left. He did not get along with anyone -- although they all said "we like Dennis". I have failed to see what is likeable about his personalilty --even in his many years as a pro basketball player. He was different for sure and an amazing basketball player but not qualifications to be an apprentice in the business world -- by any stretch of the imagination. At least the other celebrities of equally poor talent try. Dennis gave up when he was bored or could careless about what was happening -- or wanted to have fun. Not a sign of anyone who could do well in the business world.
Apparently he was there for the show -- but most people could not wait for him to go. I was worried he would go after someone physically and it would be a mess.
Mr. Trump -- hard to believe you were fooled so badly. Dennis has absolutely no ability to lead or to follow orders -- at least that what was shown on your show. Even when sober.
Love the celebrity apprentice because there are some really good people on there trying very hard.
Last night's show was embarrassing to watch.

In 2008, Rodman joined as a spokesman for a sport website, the brainchild of Mike Levy founder and former CEO of CBS Sportsline.com. Rodman also writes a blog and occasionally answers members' question for OPEN Sport. In 2009, he appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice. Throughout the season, each celebrity raised money for charity of their choice; Rodman selected the Court Appointed Special Advocates of New Orleans. He was the fifth contestant eliminated this March 29, 2009. To read more about this topic, check out at: http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2009/04/29/repair-your-credit...
