Why I Selected Herschel Walker for The Celebrity Apprentice

Blog ImageHerschel’s legacy is such that he is considered by many to be the greatest college football player of all time. When I bought the New Jersey Generals, I was pleased to have Herschel on our roster, and it’s good to see him again--and in fine form.

Herschel Walker,www.herschelwalker.net , is another example of a successful athlete who transformed discipline on the field into business success. Herschel was a football great and today he is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Man Food Service, a successful company that produces Herschel's Famous 34, a popular line of flavorful entrees and appetizers.

Of course there's Herschel's legendary college football career. Everyone knows Herschel was an amazing athlete. He helped the University of Georgia win a national championship his freshman year, earned All-American honors three straight years and set so many NCAA and SEC records that he was voted into the Collegiate Football Hall of Fame and selected as the second greatest player in college football history, just behind the legendary Red Grange. Herschel also captured what is considered to be the greatest personal achievement in college football, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1982.

After college, Herschel played in both the USFL and NFL. During his pro career, Herschel set the single-season pro football rushing record of 2,411 yards, a mark that remains unbeaten. He led the NFL in rushing and gained more total yards than anyone in professional football history.

Walker will be playing for the charity, Alternative Community Development Services, http://tinyurl.com/dkoruo, which provides educational and support programs for children and adults. Also known as Project Turnaround, ACDS's numerous services include healthcare and job search support as well as teaching kids the importance of community and social values.

If you doubt Herschel's discipline and drive, just consider the fact that he is a 6th degree tae kwon do black belt. I wouldn't want to face Herschel on the mat, but I am glad to have him in the board room.

We were big fan's of Hershel Walker...

He was a also a running back for our Minnesota Vikings! And we remember his first play...as a Viking...Wow! He was fantastic! And in his first play he lost his shoe...but won the hearts of our team that year! We loved him...and missed his leadership style.

He was a class act...

We did see his website. And would love to see him as a guest speaker in the TrumpU blog...he is a great leader in his own path. It would be interesting to listen more to him
in a guest interview?

We wish him well...and Wow what a great charity!

By being a Celebrity Apprentice, Heschel Walker has been given an excellent opportunity to expand his personal and business interests.

I hope he does more to encourage young athletes to develop skills for their sport , family life, community and educational needs.

Too often young people are attracted to glamour without thinking about all that it takes to be the Best in any chosen occupation. But after the game is over, they need to be a good human being as well.
Trophies are good, but being generous and kind is better.

And Herschel, "Don't take no s--t from those loud-mouthed competitors! Show them what makes you a Winner.

Wishing you all the Best that Life has to offer.

Mr. Trump you know how to make the boardroom interesting.

Mr. Trump,

I believe you have a real winner here. Mr. Walker demonstrates a well grounded center and maturity that helps him to stand back and take in the big picture. Whether he survives this season, or not, in life, he stands tall.

Thank you for taking the time to select people who demonstrate skills that build and can be used as examples to emulate. We need more positive role models in business. Thank you for sharing what you see in each participant.

Herschel Walker is a class act & a positive role model for black men.
I'd like to see more professional athletes raise the bar with their behavior.
What a contrast with troubled low-lifer Dennis Rodman.

Greetings Mr. Trump

Have you considered apprentice reunions or apprentices revisited? As in a special highlighting what each season's apprentices have gone on to accomplish in thier lives both personal and professional? Maybe it could include a series of motivational questions like favorite quotes, biggest heros, favorite word (focus, momentum, improvise, action, impact, etc.) This is something NBC could do during the off season to keep attention on your efforts. Another approach would be interviews with the organizations with which the apprentices team up, asking what they learned and gained from the experience, and tips for how it could be done even better etc.

By the way, I believe it is a top quality production, and the growth that results in individuals I am sure has a lifetime impact. Learning like this lives on beyond the individual and the event.

To mr. Herschel: irony and pity are two good counselors: one, in smiling, makes life pleasurable; the other who cries, makes it sacred.

Dear Mr. Trump,

Just wanted to say thank you for having a fine athlete competing on the Celebrity Apprentice. Enjoyed watching Hershel Walker on the show. As a Georgia Dawg Fan, I hated to see you give him the "you're fired!" -- But that's okay, Hershel still knows how to "sic 'em" when necessary!!!

Also, good luck with your recent book Think like a Champion (Saw your talk on Larry King Live). I hope to read it soon.

Best to you from UGA staff @ Georgia--

Becky

I hope Herschel doesn't struggle keeping his poker face on when he plays at the sports legends poker tournament. Do you think his multiple personality disorder will prohibit him from maintaining proper composure at the poker table?
