Why I Selected Melissa Rivers for The Celebrity Apprentice

Blog ImageMelissa is an accomplished producer and she knows the television industry well. Let’s see how she handles the boardroom--and her mother.

While Melissa Rivers, www.melissarivers.com, may be best known for interviewing celebrities on the red carpet with her mother Joan Rivers, she is an accomplished television producer, an Ivy League graduate, an equestrian and a mother.

A graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, Melissa teamed up with Joan Rivers to create a whole new red carpet experience for television audiences around the world. We have all seen Melissa interview celebrities and critique gowns in front of the camera. Behind the lens, however, it is Melissa River's own production company that makes it all happen.

During her time at E! television, Melissa produced and hosted several specials - two that became the channel's highest rated - "Oh Baby! Melissa’s Guide to Pregnancy" and "Oh, Toddler! Surviving the Early Years." When Melissa and Joan took their red carpet programs to TV Guide Channel a few years ago, a move that was seen as nothing less than gutsy and revolutionary, the ratings soared.

Melissa is playing The Celebrity Apprentice for the Lili Claire Foundation, www.liliclairefoundation.org . Every expectant parent wants to bring a healthy child into the world. Unfortunately, more than 20,000 children are born, each year, with a neurogenetic condition such as Williams syndrome, Down syndrome or autism. The Lili Claire Foundation eases the challenges these families face through its family support centers and outreach programs. This nonprofit organization works tirelessly to realize its goal that every child living with a neurogenetic condition receives the best, most compassionate care available.

Being producer...." people are always neglecting something they can do in trying to do something they can't."

I can see why you chose Melissa Rivers for Celebrity Apprentice and most of the other contestants. I did not see a way to post about every celebrity so, let me ask a question here. You may be of the mind set that sex sells, however, I am not and I would like to know what makes a Playboy Playmate a celebrity? I fail to see the comparison. I realize that we live in a society where just about anything goes for some people, but think that choosing someone like this sends the wrong message, especially to the youth of this country and throughout the world. When I think of celebrity and what it means, I think of people Trace Adkins, Michael Jordan, Christopher Reeves, Faith Hill, etc., etc.. I think you can see where I am going here.

It is difficult for me to think of someone that bares all as a celebrity. Someone that participates in activities like this defiles their temple and corrupts what is meant to be pure and sacred in this world. I hate to think of the young girls that may lose their positive self-image because of such images/practices and young boys that develop the wrong ideas about women. I think that women who are willing to do these types of things make it difficult for all women. Women have been through so much over the eons of time and it is devastating to realize that some continue to be accomplice to our degradation. I am sure that you would not like it if Ivanka participated in this behavior or if she idolized people that do.

You will say that it is industry, merely a way to make money, but I say you're wrong. Our insatiable appetites always prove to be our own worst enemies and cause an inner corruption.

I have enjoyed the show, but wish you would give greater thought to what really constitutes a "genuine" celebrity.

A very talented girl!

Love both her and her mom!

They are sharp about business! As told by their charity events and product lines!

Look forward to see if Melissa can lead her group? To a victory? And how her and her mom inter-act with each other...should be interesting.

Wish her well!

Great Charity!

I'm inclined to agree with member1933265. I would also LOVE to know what Mr. Trump thought when, during a disagreement in the boardroom, Melissa pleased, "Mother! Step in here!:

WHY WHY WHY did you pick Melissa Rivers? She is by for the most annoying person on earth. I couldn't stand watching Omarosa, but Melissa is much much worse. I hope you're not planning on a mother/daughter showdown. Get rid of the whining little babay.

Melissa Rivers was a great selection. She shows drive, creativity plus you can tell she actually has job skills. What are Brandy's job skills? I never saw her even type. What does baring all have to do with success? Not to mention Annie...let's see she can manipulate, connive, stab you in the back while smiling at your face oh yes and she can cook....blah blah blah...
Mr. Trump early on you rather flirted with Brandy (episode 1 or 2?) in the boardroom...you made some remark to her about her beauty, you are supposed to be indifferent.
Being beautiful is not the same as being a winner, as we all know that beauty and perfection can be bought, not earned.
Melissa has had a bad rap since day one working in her mother's shadow, does not Ivanka face the same challenges from time to time? Surely you can relate.
Next time, bring in people who have really earned their careers, but leave out the playboy bunnies and centerfolds, among other unrespectable career choices. Bring in people whose careers serve to inspire others to be better, self made people for example if not celebrities.
Dennis Rodman was another bad choice. He's a has-been, along with Andrew Dice Clay.....although Jesse James, and most of the others were good choices.
Be careful, Mr. Trump do not ****ize your show, up till now it's been very entertaining.

I'm sorry Donald but Melissa was a bad choice because Melissa has never grown up. It's interesting how Melissa was so childish with Annie Duke. Annie Duke is such a grown up professional. You have a lot of business professional business owners that are involved with the Apprentice and if I was one of the professional business owners watching Melissa and her rants when she was fired I would be so embarrassed that I would never ever ask her back regardless of her status. Melissa acts like a little high school teenager that throws these temper tantrums when she doesn’t get her way and the same goes for her mother Joan. But Melissa in particular comes across as this snot nose little brat that thinks it's never her fault and can't accept her downfalls when she clearly knows she didn't help her team on this last task before she was fired. She is so unbelievably unprofessional. I also think it hurt her career with her rants and her cursing. Both you, Jim Kramer, your daughter and the rest of the Apprentice participants are very professional and act professional. It was so obvious that Melissa has a lot of growing up to do. A professional should keep their comments to themselves rather than (Mellissa) going off in the hallway where you, Jim Kramer and your daughter could hear her bad mouthing her teammates, being so extremely rude to your staff and your bellman. It was really embarrassing to watch her rants. I feel sorry for ladies like her that can never grow up and always blame others rather than own up to there own responsibilities.

There have already been unfair firings disguised as business decisions. As celebrities people need to be given a little grace for offering to be put on the block or not raising enough money. I'm not a typical tv watcher but this show I've enjoyed with my family every Sunday. At times I like the lesson to share with my kids. But this latest firing was beyond anything I could support. Annie Hitler Duke was responsible for that loss. When she was asked how things were going she used the word, I, more than a dozen times to describe the team's situation. Brande thinks she was the leader. The turn around at the boardroom table to single out Melissa was nothing less that grandstanding soap opera rating crap. We no longer are interested in this show. If we wanted to see people treated unfairly and ganged up on we'll just have to watch a real soap. Then atleast we'll know that it's all acting.

Yes!

April 26, 2009 Apprentice has to be the best television episode on TV to date. Thank you so much!

Finally that Melissa and hopefully that mother is gone for good! Oh, thank you Mr. Trump! Thank you for passing that note to Crammer, telling him to get rid of Melissa. I understand, you have to hang around the same people as those two, you mentioned it in a past episode. I would not want that venomous duo attacking me behind my back and together to my front either. They have to be the most despicable couple in all of entertainment history - kind of like an anti-Batman and Robin.

I almost had to take a drink of strong vodka before the show (and I don't even drink so I'd have to go to a liquor store) - because I really couldn't handle anymore from those two. I was so nervous. My heart starts racing when the extreme insults and crazy hatred spouts out of Joan's mouth against anyone she perceives as a threat to her daughter's inadequacies.

Explain to the GI's that gave their lives during WWII - our very valuable young men, who died for this country or came back injured or lame, that according to Joan, to compare Annie to HItler would be an insult to Hitler. And for her and her daughter's freedom she thinks she can justify those evil remarks because Annie is a winner and an honest player and her daughter could never come close to such integrity! Annie is the reason I am still watching.

I also have to agree with comments above (probably from the Rivers clan), that I was very disappointed in your choice of a Playboy bunny to represent Apprentice, but now I fully respect Brande, something that was previously impossible but for the grace under pressure she showed against her two train wreck opponents. I also admire that she held strong and showed solidarity towards her teammate - Annie.

I was so disappointed that Athena didn't win - they deserved to win. I loved the campaign. It was just better. However, the outcome - firing Melissa shows that Athena was actually the true winner for both teams.

Thank you again. I have never talked about Apprentice so much before and everyone I speak with despises the Rivers duo. You have showed America what it is like to have grace and integrity and what it is like to posses low class, spite and extreme jealousy. Grace - Brande. Integrity - Annie. Low class, spite, extreme jealousy - The Rivers Clan.

This is one Awesome show!

It was enough that Andrew Dice Clay and Dennis Rodman were on the show, They are both immature, washed up, and terribly narcissistic individuals. For no reason, really. Enter Melissa Rivers. My husband and I were absolutely blown away about how completely ridiculous she acted on the show. Most definitely on her last show. I really had no respect for her prior to this airing, however, now, I am totally repulsed by her and her infintile actions after being "fired". It's amazing how someone who supposedly had torn tendons, could run like a little 5 year-old through that place, screaming out demands and insults, showing her true colors, and then some. What ever were you thinking bringing on this horribly spoiled individual. Joan, I get it. Melissa. Yuck. Please, Melissa and Joan, do us all a favor and just go away....

Goobye and good riddence.

Melissa was the most annoying and least interesting 'celebrity' of the bunch. After her impressive display of poor sportmanship I can only shake my head in disgust. Several of the celebrities in this batch seem to be taking this game quite personally and forgetting the simple underlying fact that this is for charity. Why Melissa and her mother went off so viciously on their fellow players I cannot understand however if I was running one of the charities they were representing I would certainly be telling them 'Thanks by no thanks, we don't want your help any longer.'

I applaud each and every celebrity for going through this form of hell in the name of charity, but enough was enough - Melissa, you're fired!
