I can remember when someone asked me where my confidence came from. I thought for a moment and realized that a lot of it comes from discipline, and from having a firm foundation. My father always told me “Know everything you can about what you’re doing”-- in other words, cover your bases, be thorough. This sounds very simple but it was very good advice, and I have followed it. It has obviously worked, and I remain grateful to my father to this day. His advice and mentorship gave led to my entrepreneurship success.
Another thing about being thorough is that it can eliminate any potential blind spots from the big picture. It can give you an edge and this too involves discipline--it takes time, effort and focus to be comprehensive. A good question to ask yourself is “What am I pretending not to see?” As an example, I held negotiations with people who failed to take into account how a 72 story skyscraper would be supported without the steel columns because they were so excited about building a public atrium similar to the one in Trump Tower. That’s a major blind spot that should have been addressed before our meeting. Being on shaky ground took on a new meaning after that meeting.
Preparation is a discipline that will open the door to confidence more quickly than you might imagine. We all know the feeling of having studied enough to max an exam, or to give a great presentation or speech. Many things can happen that are out of our control, but being prepared can definitely set you up in the right direction for success.

In my conversation with one of your successful pageant participants, she said that in training, they required her to journal extensively every day. Her coaches wanted her to write out her thoughts on every possible subject. She said the real purpose of this wasn't to learn to write, or to think, but to know herself and where she stood on anything that might come up. I imagine this is wise for anyone who may be interviewed or has a public presence. Her confidence came from knowing herself. I suspect yours does too.
The details in the world around us can change. Our foundation is what holds everything up.
Trump: The Way to the Top: The Best Business Advice I Ever Received is worth reading in this regard
We totally agree with you and your honorable father Fred, that it is necessary to study vigorously and be well prepared. Two other things that works for Us, and evidently works for you and your noble father is: (1) to have a firm belief in the good that We want to do, the good that We are doing and the good We will do for all the people on this planet, and (2) have faith in God’s unconditional love for Us. Some people think that when they hit a blind spot or have trouble of any kind, that God is out to get them. So they give up in fear. That’s superstition.
No one is perfect. Everybody makes mistakes. God is love (1 John 4:8, 16) and God’s Bible is a book of prosperity (Psalm 118:25; 3 John 2). As you have said Trump: "Never give up!"
Sincerely, your friend and "revolutionary entrepreneur"

I really would like to know your thoughts on what ordinary people can do to turn things around (in a sustainable way) in the real world that so many of us live in? Mr. Trump, you had a wonderful start to your career. You had advantages right from the get-go. You took those and built on them in an extraordinary way. And as you said in this book, you had breaks and some very good luck along the way.
I am not a quitter or a loser and not without talents or abilities. But I am overwhelmed with the life I am living and for too many years now. I don't know what to do next. It is not for lack of trying or hard work that life has turned into a daily grind of "treading water" (another quote from your book).
What does one do when the snowball effect of one crisis after another just keeps on coming with very little in the way of good news or breaks to offset the struggles? I really would like to know what you suggest to ordinary people who are trying very hard to turn their lives around for the better. Who want to be successes and are willing to work harder. I wonder what you would do, if you were to 'walk a mile in my shoes'? I really, really do.
Not beeing afraid of winning nor losing. Knowing that no matter what kind of situation you are in, you will always have yourself.
One thing that I consider very important when climbing that ladder is to always keep your humor. No matter how serious situations get, you need to be able to have humor. To many people these days, especially in business, have to little humor in what they are doing. It gives you that stand-off that you need sometimes. It is just healthy. Do not lose your humor.
I'm so happy that you posted your thoughts on confidence. I put it to the test and believe that it works for me. It does take effort in preparing, but the rewards have been great so far. I can't wait to see what they'll be like as I continue to strive harder. Before, I felt like i was barely making it. Now, I seem to thrive on what was once problems, and now have become challenges, which I am now a lot less fearful of. Thanks you for pointing me in the right direction regarding this subject.
Kind Regards,
Robert
