Confidence

I can remember when someone asked me where my confidence came from. I thought for a moment and realized that a lot of it comes from discipline, and from having a firm foundation. My father always told me “Know everything you can about what you’re doing”-- in  other words, cover your bases, be thorough. This sounds very simple but it was very good advice, and I have followed it. It has obviously worked, and I remain grateful to my father to this day. His advice and mentorship gave led to my entrepreneurship success.

Another thing about being thorough is that it can eliminate any potential blind spots from the big picture. It can give you an edge and this too involves discipline--it takes time, effort and focus to be comprehensive. A good question to ask yourself is “What am I pretending not to see?” As an example, I held negotiations with people who failed to take into account how a 72 story skyscraper would be supported without the steel columns because they were so excited about building a public atrium similar to the one in Trump Tower. That’s a major blind spot that should have been addressed before our meeting. Being on shaky ground took on a new meaning after that meeting.

Preparation is a discipline that will open the door to confidence more quickly than you might imagine. We all know the feeling of having studied enough to max an exam, or to give a great presentation or speech. Many things can happen that are out of our control, but being prepared can definitely set you up in the right direction for success.

Great food for thought here. I agree, Mr. Trump, the more you know, the more you have available to use. The more you know, the bigger the view. The more time and resources you have to prepare, the better your chance to address the details before they are an issue. I am not sure I agree that this is confidence, other than that you trust those things are in place and your information came from valid sources. I would call what you described competence. But, hasn't there ever been a time, when you didn't have the information, or you weren't prepared for something that came up? Did you lose confidence when that happened - or did it just motivate you to improve next time? See underlying it all was the knowledge that you were still intact - even if the deal wasn't.

In my conversation with one of your successful pageant participants, she said that in training, they required her to journal extensively every day. Her coaches wanted her to write out her thoughts on every possible subject. She said the real purpose of this wasn't to learn to write, or to think, but to know herself and where she stood on anything that might come up. I imagine this is wise for anyone who may be interviewed or has a public presence. Her confidence came from knowing herself. I suspect yours does too.

The details in the world around us can change. Our foundation is what holds everything up.

To you Trump: the Connoisseur of Confidence. Please give Our highest regards to your strong sons, daughters and your special half Melania. Thank you.

We totally agree with you and your honorable father Fred, that it is necessary to study vigorously and be well prepared. Two other things that works for Us, and evidently works for you and your noble father is: (1) to have a firm belief in the good that We want to do, the good that We are doing and the good We will do for all the people on this planet, and (2) have faith in God’s unconditional love for Us. Some people think that when they hit a blind spot or have trouble of any kind, that God is out to get them. So they give up in fear. That’s superstition.

No one is perfect. Everybody makes mistakes. God is love (1 John 4:8, 16) and God’s Bible is a book of prosperity (Psalm 118:25; 3 John 2). As you have said Trump: "Never give up!"

Sincerely, your friend and "revolutionary entrepreneur"
Nimrod Erech M. Christ Nimrod, Ph.D.

I just finished reading: Think Like A Champion and enjoyed it very much. Some of the advice you give is timeless and applicable to everyone. But many times it seems that your focus is on teaching and mentoring only young people. Of course, they need help, they need guidance and the right tools for success. But what about the older people who have come up against challenges that they just can't seem to get past? The reality of living paycheck to paycheck with no end in sight?

I really would like to know your thoughts on what ordinary people can do to turn things around (in a sustainable way) in the real world that so many of us live in? Mr. Trump, you had a wonderful start to your career. You had advantages right from the get-go. You took those and built on them in an extraordinary way. And as you said in this book, you had breaks and some very good luck along the way.

I am not a quitter or a loser and not without talents or abilities. But I am overwhelmed with the life I am living and for too many years now. I don't know what to do next. It is not for lack of trying or hard work that life has turned into a daily grind of "treading water" (another quote from your book).

What does one do when the snowball effect of one crisis after another just keeps on coming with very little in the way of good news or breaks to offset the struggles? I really would like to know what you suggest to ordinary people who are trying very hard to turn their lives around for the better. Who want to be successes and are willing to work harder. I wonder what you would do, if you were to 'walk a mile in my shoes'? I really, really do.

I agree. Expect the unexpected, prepare for the desired result and walk, talk, dress and act like you know what you are doing. Mother Superior walked around with a wooden yardstick and she wasn't afraid to use it. Fortunately for me, she liked me and never used it on my knuckles like I watched her do to some wiseguys that didn't take her seriously. Was she confident? I think so. Did she believe in disciplne? Absolutely. Did I respect her? Yes. And today, I am grateful that she was my teacher. Although I don't walk around with a wooden yardstick like she did, I value her lessons.

Confidence is this, "even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord for you are with me... You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me"..

I like very much these blogs nowadays because their message and learning methods are in everyones forthcoming and everyone can reach own goals partly with own everyday living and thinking methods. Great part about your success possibilities is indeed already in your head (allthough great part is depending also about your childhood environment). You must find the ways to get the existing knowledge out in to action and to use. The one and important attribute is courage to use your talents and get your point to large awareness and when you can make others to trust to your words and sayings then you are in right direction to success. Learning is the key to get that self-confidence and preparation; "Know everything you can about what you’re doing".

Confidence comes from so much. The higher you climb the ladder of life, the more confident you will get. Knowing that you can handle many different situations.

Not beeing afraid of winning nor losing. Knowing that no matter what kind of situation you are in, you will always have yourself.

One thing that I consider very important when climbing that ladder is to always keep your humor. No matter how serious situations get, you need to be able to have humor. To many people these days, especially in business, have to little humor in what they are doing. It gives you that stand-off that you need sometimes. It is just healthy. Do not lose your humor.

While knowledge is very important to confidence, self-esteem and the ability to walk forward in faith - maybe a little blindly- is the more important factor. I think for self-esteem, you have to be deeply grateful to your parents- also their friendship with Dr. Norman Vincent Peale- this does give you a very firm foundation. For people who have a lot to overcome, I recommend 12 steps groups- if you don't have one that fits- everyone can fit Overcomer's Anonymous. Most of us don't have that firm foundation, what we need to do is to take every day at a time, do whatever we can, and walk forward in faith one step at a time. We need to take a fearless look at what is wrong with our foundation and to have the courage to rip it out and replace it with something firm and strong. It is the courage to get up over and over again that makes us great. I was thinking the other day that someone could do a reality show about my life and that it would be very inspiring- and that maybe that focus would help me to keep in focus. On the other hand, my son would hate that and has no place to go- so I need to gain that focus for myself and write a book about my journey. Always saying that but need to do it! Good luck to all on their journey!

To Mr. Trump & Trump University:
I'm so happy that you posted your thoughts on confidence. I put it to the test and believe that it works for me. It does take effort in preparing, but the rewards have been great so far. I can't wait to see what they'll be like as I continue to strive harder. Before, I felt like i was barely making it. Now, I seem to thrive on what was once problems, and now have become challenges, which I am now a lot less fearful of. Thanks you for pointing me in the right direction regarding this subject.

Kind Regards,
Robert
