An Incomplete Education

Blog ImageThere’s an interesting book that first appeared in 1987 that became a bestseller. It was updated in 1995 and it contains a full gamut of information that will keep you interested in reading more no matter what your interests might be.  An Incomplete Education,by Judy Jones and William Wilson, covers a variety of subjects in a succinct CliffsNotes way that can save you a lot of study time while keeping you entertained.

For example, their chapter called Opera for Philistines describes the ‘most bankable composer ever’ (Puccini) as “The Steven Spielberg of opera.” Their chapter on Shakespeare, Bellying up to the Bard, gives nutshell synopses, and Philosophy Made Simplistic covers an enormous span of time in thirty three pages. All those -ologies and -isms are explained with a warning that ontology (the study of being) is a word for intellectual big-spenders, and even if you aren’t a philosophy buff (or a big-spender in this realm) this provides some fascinating reading. You can even find out in two short pages how to tell the difference between the Iliad and the Odyssey in the chapter on literature.

Political Science or What You Need to Know Before Answering a Personals Ad in the International Herald-Tribune, is covered, as are Economics (Now What Exactly is Economics, and What do Economists Do, Again?) and Science (Out of the Cyclotron, Into the Streets) with due respect given to World History, Religion, Psychology, American Studies, Art History, Film and more. Whenever you have a spare moment or two, this book can provide you with information that will make those spare moments count. It’s the kind of book you can open anywhere and very likely find something you didn’t know before.

Sounds very interesting, and I bet no library is complete without it either - right? I guess I better add that one to my gotta get it list. Have you ever checked out Uncle John's Bathroom Readers?

What I like about your books is that you can just open it and read it for a brief moment and learn something valuable. Quite frankly, reading one of your books for more than 30 min can give you an overdose and it might be hard to remember everything you've read. That's why I like to read them just for a short amount of time, and then you learned something new and valuable that day.

However, should probably inquire some more books from you, I just happend to read my brothers Trump book while on vaccation. A vaccation that I needed by the way.

This book sounds like fascinating read, especially in our fast moving world where we have less, and less time to read...

I salute you, Mr. Trump,
On the topic of incomplete educations and books, I am continuing to follow your recommendation and am presently reading TRUMP The Art of the Comeback. As always you provide great food for thought.

KeyS I'm looking forward to the next chapters.
