I have often said that I learn something new every day, and recently I learned where the term “caddie” came from, which, as a golfer, I found to be of special interest. Golf originated in Scotland and Mary, who was later to become known as Queen of Scots, loved and played the game.
Louis, King of France, knew that Mary loved the game and so when she went to France as young girl he had a golf course built for her enjoyment, which was the first golf course outside of Scotland. As he was concerned for her safety, King Louis had cadets from a military school accompany her for protection while she played.
Mary liked this idea, and when she returned to Scotland, she brought the idea with her. While her return to Scotland was ill-fated, the practice of having ‘cadets’--or caddies as they became known--as companions and helpers on the golf course, wasn’t. To this day they are an important part of golf, and a part of golf history as well.

KeyS Recreation like these games of Golf are great for your mental and physical health. As I understand, golfers even have a special diet.
"A golfer's diet: live on greens as much as possible." ~Author Unknown
You are right about learning new things all the time.

How interesting, and a brilliant idea for the Lady to take it back to the home of Golf. Steve Williams and the like would be eternally grateful to her.
How is progress on your golf course in Scotland? I checked your website on the proposed site recently and I couldn’t see if any works had commenced yet. It’s a fantastic project; have you won over the farmer next door yet? I saw the programme on TV, quite some time ago now, where he was interviewed and was vehemently opposed to it. I thought to myself, back then, you have a challenge on your hands right there! Sincere Best Wishes with it all.
