There are many stories of inspiration that we can draw on from history, such as Abraham Lincoln and his triumph over many years of adversity, and there are people who are living and working today who have had success despite many setbacks and tragedies.

I recently came across a book by a man who survived five concentration camps as a teenaged boy who became a real estate developer in Los Angeles and encountered great success. His story is an inspiring one.

Blog ImageA Holocaust Survivor: In The Footsteps Of His Past is by Naftali Deutsch. After his parents and brothers were murdered by the Nazis and after WWII, he made his way to Israel and then to the United States, where he settled in California. He had no schooling and no money, but he worked hard as a plumber, educated himself, and he eventually became a very wealthy man through real estate. His explanation for that is simple. He says "I understand land. I'm not afraid of land." I can also tell that he is not afraid of hard work-and he still works every day.

It's good to read about people like this and to learn from their experiences. Mr. Deutsch is a great example of what can happen in this country and what can result from determination and focus.

Thank you for keeping you finger on the pulse of this nation.

Currently, I am a laid off teacher in California. The reduction in the teaching for and the shear number of qualified candidates has made getting a teaching job as competitive as getting a goverment job. I am not into tenure; I tend to get jobs where I am needed most and where I know that I am making a big difference. I am not afraid of taking the hard contracts with the hard students. But now, the demand for teachers is in special education working with even harder students. When I go though stretches between teaching contracts, I consider starting my own business like a school. The easier route may be to get a couple more teaching certificates (authorizations) to become more marketable for hire. The bottom line is determination, and doing the hardwork to get the knowledge required to get hired or start up a company. I am in my mid 50s and plan to continue working though even my frail age because I am not afraid to forge my way through these times.

And, in my heart of hearts, I know enough about history to know that during hard times, new things and new businesses will be developed because of pioneering spirits of people. "It is the worst of times and the best of time."

Hard work is one of the cornerstones of every success. America is a great country indeed, because hard-working people with skills and great ideas can create business empires starting from zero.

ICrashing Through by Robert Kurson is a true story of risk, adventure and the man who dared to see.
Blinded at age three he manages to make it through school, learn how to ski, go to college, get married, have two wonderful boys and start a business from scratch with a product he created to help the blind navigate the streets with a GPS.
When a specialist tells him about a procedure that can possibly restore his sight, he becomes anxious because he already feels he has a fantastic life. But after much debate, he goes for the operation. His first weeks of seeing are described so well, I felt like crying half way through the book.
The majority of people have all of their senses to work with, yet we take so much for granted.
I am in awe of a man who did better than most, especially for learning how to ski. Overcoming fear is what successful people learn how to do well.

Indeed the human spirit is resilient, and we are blessed to have people like Mr. Deutsch to look to for inspiration. While I was not familiar with Mr. Deutsch, I have been fortunate to have encountered people of immense spirit, like him, and somehow just listening to their wisdom and insight made me grow: Terry Waite, Jim Lovell, POW's, death camp survivors, and many kids I have helped through difficult adjustments, and turmoil. Even in the most painful and difficult circumstances, somehow, they found the strength to face the challenge, pick themselves back up, and move on. I love that saying from Steel Magnolias "If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger" I believe that, so I figure after my most recent challenges, I should be about ready to take on superman and wonder woman, Rocky, and the Bionic Man with one hand.

Its funny, when things seem the most bleak, encouragement comes: a smile, a friendly greeting, at thank you. A word of affirmation, and somehow, you regroup. Thank you.

Dear Trump: You and your family shall continue to be an inspiration.

Adversity can make a person stronger, just like going to the gym and exercising hard can make a person stronger. Resistance is reality and can be rewarding. Throughout history man’s inhumanity to man has been abominable. And throughout history the story of those who survived has been inspirational.

Sincerely , your friend
Nimrod (Gen. 9:25; 10:8-10)

What an inspiration you and Mr.Deutsch has been for all of us! 40+ years ago I met a woman who also survived the **** horrors in several camps (she was the only family member to survive). She wrote a book call "All but my life." I will never forget the tattoo numbers on her arm---she said her faith and the knowing that one day she would out the camp free, kept her going.
Take care-

Inspiration becomes a chain reaction- feeding off each other. When I was a child, I heard my Mom tell me about one of her high school friends who survived a concentration camp. He was in the gas chamber and was knocked to the ground where he was able to breathe because of some water near the floor. He woke up in a pile of bodies- waited until dark and was able to make it to Switzerland and then was sent to the United States.

My Mom was student council president, so was asked to make this boy feel at home. My Mom has always strongly believed that anyone in this country can be anything. This boy became one of her best friends and was inspired by her to go on to college and become an obstetrician. He was not able to have children himself due to his experiences- but was able to help other people to have children and contribute to the new generations in that way.

Years later, my Mom had a miscarriage. She had been bleeding for hours when I found her and was able to get her help. She heard someone say that she was DOA, and a neighbor tell them that she had 5 children under age 6- try one more time to see if she was alive. They put a mirror under her nose, and she summoned all her will to put out one last breath. They whisked her to the OR. When she awoke she was amazed to see that the surgeon who had saved her life was her old friend!

The things that I had experienced that day in addition to finding my Mom like that, scarred me for many years. I pulled into a shell and did not want to come out. There were years when I did not speak unless someone spoke to me. My Mom kept encouraging me. I heard her tell me so many times- "If you don't try harder to make friends, some day you'll wake up and find out there is a world going on around you and you won't be able to get in". Waking up was the hardest thing I ever had to do- but it didn't happen all at once- it happened in small stages- and I know that there still is more waking up to do- but I'm doing it.

Three lives- each affected by the brutality of the world but keeping above it- each saving the other and inspiring the other- praying for each other. All my life, I've known that I am here only by the grace of God and have done my best to pass the grace along- helping and inspiring other people. I have stared death in the face at least 3 times and been saved by a miracle- I thank God for every day alive no matter how challenging.

My billion dollar ideas, my writing, my teaching have helped other people- and those people go on to inspire others- it's a chain reaction! Be part of that chain reaction yourselves.

Thank you Donald Trump for asking questions, listening to the answers, for becoming who you are, and for paying the inspiration forward!
