Success and A Happy Family Life

Blog ImageThe following question was submitted to "Ask Donald Trump" by a Trump University member.

Question:
How has your family life and marriages influenced, either positively or negatively, in your way of achieving things? How is this aspect of your life tied to your success?

My Response:
Having a happy family life definitely provides an equilibrium that is very helpful for finding success. It is a firm foundation, just as education can be. A family unit is stronger than an individual. For example, I am the Chairman of a large organization, and I know how effective it is, and how important it is, to have a strong team behind you. I came from a very close family and I am grateful for that, as I know that fact helped me tremendously.

Donald Trump's biggest success is the raising of his children. You NEVER hear anything negative about them. When I see Ivanka I just beam and wish all the young women in America would learn from her. She is absolute perfection. Beautiful, educated, well-liked, kind, and most of all, a LADY. I love Donald Trump. He's unbelievable.

Mr. Trump, I like the comparison of family to your organization - both should be a team working together to bring out the best in every member, and to fill the voids - helping each to be and look their best. I only wish our political parties could stop to realize that and stop all the mud slinging. We could accomplish so much more. We are each successful because others have helped us along the way.

I agree, good family is such an awesome building block, but if you don't have it, growing up, friends and mentors can fill that void, and you can create your own strong family unit as an adult. I know having a stable home life certainly helps you in job performance. Unfortunately, family crisis can also take a huge tole on effectiveness. Good family is a true blessing.

This post is a special one because it reveals an absolute truth that is glossed over or easily forgotten by most (and may not have been noticed by many readers of this post).

There is a serious problem in America today where people put financial goals ahead of their family life. But the truth is, family MUST come first (along with health, spirituality, etc.) and having a great family life will LEAD to a better career, more wealth, etc.

Family comes before finances, not the other way around. And here you have Donald Trump himself telling you the same thing.

It can be said that career satisfaction is largely a matter of an individual comparing his/her career and life expectations with those being offered. In shaping such career expectations, there are economic considerations (e.g. compensation and retirement benefits) and occupational and family considerations (professional satisfaction, job satisfaction, advancement opportunities, relocation, etc.). Some research indicates that a happy family life correlates with high levels of job satisfaction and objective career success. Rapoport and Rapoport supported this by showing that the family's morale support and the diversion that it entails make it an important factor affecting QWL. Based on Judge et al., career success/achievement is defined as the positive psychological outcomes or achievements one has accumulated as a result of experiences over the span of working life which consists of objective career success (job title, salary or promotion) and subjective career success (one's own appraisal of career attainment). Research also suggests that job tenure and total time in one's occupation are positively related to career success/achievement besides the number of hours worked per week and salary and ascendancy. A positive relationship between ambition and career success has been found in several studies of managers and executives. Herriot recognizes that sometimes there is a conflict between personal life and work and differences in perceptions of "success" in life. The perception of career includes beliefs and values, expectations and aspirations. To read more: http://personalmoneystore.com/Payday-Loans/instant-Payday-Loans/insta...

Having a good family life is better than having a miserable one. The energy spent trying to be right all the time can be exhausting. If you have a close family that gets along well, you are lucky. The reality is people are more interested in their own agendas than taking the time to listen to the needs of others.
Some people are better off living alone, or forming a close bond with a pet. Children are not necessary for people to show affection and concern for a spouse. If you have a life of peace and harmony you are among the happier people. Other people will not necessarily make you more successful, but having a good family life should be a high priority.

It actually goes both ways - A strong family can help you in your business, but don't forget that in order to have a strong family your life should not be about business only.

Trump: The Family man. The Business man. Great combination.

A thought came to me Trump. The picture on this immediate blog, of you, Donald Jr. and the sweet Ivanka, is glaringly missing your son Eric who is also a VP of the Trump Organization. Why is Eric missing? Is it because (1) he is the tallest one in the family and you don‘t want any family member in a picture with you who is taller than you?, (2) or has he done something to annoy you?, or (3) does he prefer to be kept in the background and out of sight? This third option would not be good since, We feel, he cannot publicize his "Eric Trump foundation for St. Jude Hospital" as easily to the world. That is if his worthy foundation is still functioning. Helping helpless children is a very magnificent Calling for Eric and his foundation. Trump, why isn’t my namesake Eric in the picture?

Arianna Huffington, a contributing voice in Ivanka’s new book, was a guest on the Emmy Award winning show "The View" on Monday September 28, 2009. Arianna is a very beautiful, intelligent, strong, caring and insightful woman, as are all of the women of "The View." No doubt Arianna’s perceptive quotes in Ivanka’s soon-to-be released book (on October 13th) "The Trump Card: Playing To Win in Work and Life" will be jewels worth reading. Arianna Huffington boldly thinks "out-of-the-box." It would have been nice if Ivanka’s book date of release was Friday the 13th. That’s a good luck day for this black cat. And it would be good luck day for Ivanka too, although Ivanka and I do not need luck. We are blessed. Ivanka and Arianna. An amazing combination of knowledge, information and power. I have been aware of Arianna for many years. No doubt the other contributors to Ivanka’s book will be worth reading also. Ivanka’s book can also be judged, "superb" by it’s powerful cover.

Congratulations to you women of "The View" for winning the Emmy Award and making history as the first show with multiple co-hosts to win the Emmy.

Sincerely your friend and "Revolutionary Entrepreneur"

Mr. Trump I am a big fan of The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice and want to be a business man just like you some day. I have two questions:

1. We're in October now, so when does The Celebrity Apprentice 3 start filming and who's on it?
2. Will the regular version of The Apprentice ever return to NBC?

If you can please answer these two questions in your next ask question blog that would be great. Thanks

I have also the son (almost 17 years) and the daughter (almost 22 years) and they are both priceless to me. I learn from them and they learn from me (I hope so). Sometimes I give them my advices but I have learned to let them do things as their own way, it really works. You have to know when your advices are welcome and when they are trash.

I think life is biggest teacher to everyone, you can steer your life quite freely, but you must be honest to yourself. Do YOU really like what you are doing or do you do things because it is a habbit or used to do so. You must think in your own way sometimes, in that way you can learn.

It is very important to get the support and admiration or at least someone says to you thank you, it was a good job. You need that. Without nobody´s confidence or without the feeling that somebody needs you, your life could be horrible and meaningless.

I agree, a close family, that cares for one another, and always looks out for eachother, is a great thing to cherish and take care of, and also an excellent reinforcement for anyone in business to remember that they have.
