Deliver the Goods

Blog ImageNot too long ago someone was asking me what I thought the secrets to my success in business might be. That’s a broad topic so I decided to apply it to my success over the years, especially pertaining to the brand I have built. But the answers can be helpful to you whether you are a student or if you already run a business.

First of all, you need to be able to deliver the goods. People want the best for their money, and that’s a quality common to consumers whether past, present or future. It can also simplify your life--all you have to do is to provide the best. This approach gives a significant guideline for focus, and has worked for me.

Second, make sure you’re doing something you love doing. That way your efforts will never be for nothing. If you can’t enjoy the process, you will not be as effective and it will enervate your energy, versus giving you the energy you need to be productive enough to be successful.

Third, it’s great if you love what you’re doing, but be sure you’re good at it. Maybe you love playing tennis. That doesn’t mean you can turn pro and make a living at it. Be reasonable--as well as creative--in stemming your passion into something viable. Be circumspect while maintaining your enthusiasm.

Finally, know that not everything works out exactly as we have planned and be ready to adapt. Sometimes something even better will surface. But no matter what you’re doing now, keep your focus on delivering the goods, whether it’s a report for school or a presentation at the office. You will be paving your way to success in the best way possible.

You are so right that doing, being, and offering your best is key - after all, what more can you do than that? Yet, for me, the most meaningful work isn't just about doing your best, and liking what you do - it is also about believing in its value. I need to see how my effort ties into my values and mission or what I feel is my real purpose in life. I need to make a positive difference. That adds a depth and personal satisfaction that doesn't come from competence alone. When you complete your tasks as a service, with integrity, and humility (balanced with compassion and conscientious care) I believe it raises you to a higher level of success.
Now that is KeyS

I've found that none of my hobbies can be turned into successful business, so I'm focusing hard on what I'm good at to make money, even though it's not as enjoyable as my hobbies.

That is true: "....If you can’t enjoy the process, you will not be as effective and it will enervate your energy.." When you like your work it can be noticed by others too and can get them also in to the good feelings and that brings positive attitude to your businesses too.

Think positive, even it seems difficult to do so. Our mind has very strong position when we think our behaviour. When you start doing something, concentrate only to that mission and positively.

Donald Trump is right, keeping your focus on "delivering the goods" is a great thing to focus on, and will help strengthen your focus for what you are achieving in life, whether it is in sports, family, or at work. It's true, when you "deliver the goods", all you have to do is provide your best work, and it will simplify things, and make you feel like you are developing new strengths, and becoming better at what you do. When you work at "delivering the goods", you do a few things, you create integrity for yourself, and your reputation at work, and you discover new things about yourself that you never knew you had. Be smart, and "deliver the goods."

Hello!
I completely agree with what you are saying, though I would change the second to first, third to second - you have got to love what you do, then be good at it and then deliver those two first. Though it is actually all a circle.

Since I deal with personal branding I have realized, that personal motivation and ability are the most important things to start with anything.

At the moment Junior Chamber International Estonia is organizing a personal branding conference next year to help young entrepreneurs better succeed in their plans. We would love to have your "pep talk" for this event. You are a great entrepreneur, having a great and notable personal brand and we would love to get you closer to Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians (it is a Baltic Conference).

All the best and looking forward to your next blog entries, books, clips, ets.

A big fan of yours,
Liisi Toom
