Going Green Brings in the Green

One week to go until Blog Action Day...

I read this case study in Marketing Sherpa that is worth sharing even if you are not thinking about the environment.  They highlighted a catalog company which understood that many of their customers were concerned with the environment and moving away from paper based catalogs.  To help boost response and maintain their customer base they put together a marketing strategy that addressed their users concerns and increased the company's bottom line.  You can see from this case study that going green can produce  "green" results.

The key take away / reminders for me are:

  • You always need to think about your customers.
  • Why do they buy from you?
  • What need do you serve in their lives?
  • Are you communicating with them how they want to communicate with you?
  • What can I change that might make my marketing work better?
  • Are you testing new ideas?

If you don't read Marketing Sherpa regularly you should think about signing up.  They produce some great case studies you might be able to apply to your business.  Who knows you might be the next Marketing Sherpa or better yet a Marketing Maestro...

Tell me what you think about the Marketing Sherpa case study.

Marketing Sherpa is one of the best resources on the net. Even better, it's free. If everyone read it (including everyone's clients everywhere) the internet would be saner, more profitable and more enjoyable.

Jeff,
You are correct. Their info is free but only for 2 weeks and then you pay. Marketing Sherpa has done what many publishers have failed to do. Give away content early on then charge small amounts for it once the free preview is over. I have paid for some of their info since it is very useful. If you haven't used their archive check it out. Lots of good stuff to review.

Just one of the things they do right. They combined with Marketing Experiments.com (Flint McGlaughlin), another king of giving away a certain level of information to gain future sales. But more importantly, I think, is that they are committed to making us all more professional and helping the industry. So when I do need to pay them for their knowledge, I never mind doing it. Their best for-pay products: their annual Benchmark guides for Search and Email marketing. Indispensable!
