Today I was named Brand Champion of the Day by Rex Whisman.  It is an honor to be recognized by a peer and I encourage you to read Rex's blog.  He covers branding with some interesting angles.

While it is great to be the Brand Champion of the Day the job of brand champion is an ongoing role.   This is also not a job for just one person and I share the responsibility with everyone at TrumpU.  When you are building a brand make sure every employee in your company feels as if they are brand champions.

Do you think it is easier or more difficult to be a brand champion of an established brand or one that is still being developed?

Congratulations! To answer your question, they're both easy, but I think it's easier to be brand champion of a new brand, if you're good at creating powerful branding, and easier to be brand champion of an existing brand if you're good at account management. The stakeholders of new brands have high expectations, many of which are often internally conflicting, but at least there's no history to fight against, and a powerful brand concept can frequently win over any opposition. The stakeholders of older brands have history, territory, and internal politics that all enter into the equation, which would be easier to navigate if you're an expert at account management. (Shameless plug follows:) Of course, a good agency (like ours!) has great creatives and great account managers, all with solid experience when it comes to branding, so for us, they're both fun projects.

By the way, should we be looking out for your picture to show up on a box of Wheaties, "the Breakfast of Champions?"

Wheaties was an important part of my day when I was younger. If you know any of the folks who decide the "Champions" that are featured it would be great if you could put a good word in for me...
Thanks again for reading and participating in the conversation.

Not sure about wheaties but ditto to Jeffrey's comment about new brand stakeholders. We had terrible strife with mature brand stakeholders but with the help of a local guru, Steve Hollows, we found the key messages began to gain some traction with stakeholders of the newer brands. Phew.
